There have been several great players in the MLB and Shohei Ohtani is one of them. Born in July 1994, the 2-way player has already proved his worth in the league. He has been impressive ever since he entered the MLB in 2018 with the Los Angeles Angels. Now, it seems like the star pitcher will be earning the money he deserves in the league.
Shohei Ohtani has recently signed a lucrative contract with the Dodgers. It’s a $700 million deal with the team for 10 years. The contract has $700 million guaranteed and will offer him an average yearly salary of $70 million. Also, it’s worth noting that this deal has come 6 years 1 day after Ohtani signed his rookie deal with the Angels.

The Japan-born MLB star’s total contract is reportedly 64% more than the previous record. It was a 12-year contract of outfielder Mike Trout worth $426.5 million with the Angels in 2019. As for Ohtani‘s salary, it’s 62% more than the previous highest salary of Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander ($43.3 million).
Nez Balelo, the agent of the 29-year-old designated hitter referred to this contact as “unique”. He further mentioned that Shohei Ohtani is “excited” to play for the Dodgers. “This is a unique, historic contract for a unique, historic player… He is excited to begin this partnership,” he said.
Shohei Ohtani has undoubtedly broken all the records with his massive new contract. However, considering his exceptional performance in the MLB, he deserves all that money.
Shohei Ohtani will earn $25 million more than NFL’s Patrick Mahomes yearly
Shohei Ohtani has become the highest-paid MLB player with his recent deal. However, he has left NFL star Patrick Mahomes behind as well in terms of salary. The 28-year-old QB was in the limelight after he signed his recent deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. However, now his massive salary is nowhere near that of Ohtani.
Mahomes signed a huge $450 million deal with the Chiefs for 10 years. The contract included a signing bonus of $10 million and $141.4 million guaranteed. It offers him an average yearly salary of $45 million. However, comparing it with Shohei Ohtani, Mahomes’ salary is $25 million less than that of the MLB star.
It’s worth noting that the Madden 24 star is not the highest-paying player in the NFL. Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is the highest-earning player in the league currently. He’s earning an average yearly salary of $55 million, which is $10 million more than Mahomes’.
There are many other players in the NFL who have been earning more than the Chiefs QB. Some of the names include LA Chargers’ Justin Herbert, Ravens’ Lamar Jackson, and Eagles’ Jalen Hurts. However, with his MLB contract, Shohei Ohtani has left all of these NFL stars behind. Now, he’ll be taking a good amount home every year.
