The Japan-born MLB star’s total contract is reportedly 64% more than the previous record. It was a 12-year contract of outfielder Mike Trout worth $426.5 million with the Angels in 2019. As for Ohtani‘s salary, it’s 62% more than the previous highest salary of Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander ($43.3 million).
Nez Balelo, the agent of the 29-year-old designated hitter referred to this contact as “unique”. He further mentioned that Shohei Ohtani is “excited” to play for the Dodgers. “This is a unique, historic contract for a unique, historic player… He is excited to begin this partnership,” he said.
