Popular UK-based UFC fighter Tom Aspinall recently appeared in the latest video of the 2017 World’s Strongest Man and YouTuber Eddie Hall. Eddie is a retired strongman and a well-known social media personality from England. Apart from being the 2017 World’s Strongest Men, he has held multiple strongman titles in England.
The 4th ranked UFC heavyweight made some interesting remarks on the heavyweight training mentality in the current era. “A lot of big guys just want to win all the time. They’re great at being the hammer, sh*t at being the nail,” said Tom Aspinall on the current heavyweight training style.

When Eddie Hall asked Aspinall how he would do against fellow strongmen like Brian Shaw after six months of training, he started off by saying, “It all depends on how your mentality is in the gym“. “If you are willing to learn and put yourself in bad situations and lose rounds to learn, then your improvement will be massive,” Aspinall further elaborates on his statement.
According to Aspinall, a lot of heavyweight fighters only train with fellow heavyweights, which limits their learning experience. In the video shared by Eddie Hall, the audience can see both Hall and Aspinall having a training session where Aspinall is teaching him how to throw jabs, feints, and low kicks. The fans can also see Aspinall dominating Eddie on the ground while having some funny back-and-forth conversation.
Is calling out Jon Jones a smart Move by Tom Aspinall?
Tom Aspinall (13-3-0) recently made his long-awaited return at UFC Fight Night 224 after a year off due to a knee injury during a match against Curtis Blaydes. He made a dynamic comeback against Marcin Tybura (24-8-0) via first-round TKO. During the post-fight interview, Tom Aspinall made his intentions clear by stating that he would beat the winner of Ciryl Gane vs. Sergey Spivak, and then he would beat Jon Jones.
“Everyone is the next big thing until I beat them,” said Jon Jones in one of the many deleted tweets based on Aspinall’s call-out. Jones has made his intentions clear: he will retire after his much-anticipated match against Stipe Miocic unless he gets a match against Francis Ngannou.

If this match somehow happens and Aspinall is able to beat Jones, he will be only the third-ever British champion in the UFC after Michael Bisping and Leon Edwards. For now, Aspinall will most likely be taking on Ciryl Gane or Sergei Pavlovich for either the heavyweight title or to become the No. 1 contender. This will be based on the retirement decision of Jon Jones or Stipe Miocic after UFC 295.
Do you agree with Jon Jones on his decision to retire after his fight with Stipe, or will Tom Aspinall get his dream match against Jones? While the matchup between the two heavyweights sounds interesting, Jones is looking for both big money and legacy fights at this stage of his career.
