UFC 299 is up and underway and what a night we’ve had so far. One of the most ridiculously stacked cards of all time, and the fans got to witness some very amazing fights. Among them was Petr Yan vs. Song Yadong, which opened up the main event.
For the most part, the fight was quite overlooked by many despite it being such an exciting contest. Owing to the nature of the card, it was surprising to see the depth of the card and how deliverable it could be. For all intents and purposes, Fight Week reminded us of just how unmissable Yan and Yadong are.

Speaking in the press conference, both fighters pledged violence and some high-level boxing. On the night, that is exactly what was delivered from the fighters. With both bantamweights being incredibly competitive, it was expected that both would have their moments. In the end, one of them was able to make their moments count just a little more.
Petr Yan beats Song Yadong at UFC 299
Coming into this one, many saw it as a last-chance saloon for Petr Yan. Having been on the receiving end of back-to-back losses to Aljamain Sterling, Sean O’Malley, and Merab Dvalishvili, many felt as though Petr’s time at the top and possibly even the UFC was done. Initially, fans felt that they could be in for a long night after Song Yadong’s successes in Round 1.
Following some sharp exchanges, the Chinese prospect managed to get a hold of ‘No Mercy’. Despite some evasive maneuvers including a Gramby roll, Yadong held on to his man. Although Petr tried to catch Song with a late flurry, it was clear that the round was out of his hands. Thereafter, Round 2 was a big one and many felt that Yan got it one back, having finally found his rhythm and dusted off the cobwebs.

Notably, Yan began finding a lot of success on the feet with his uppercuts in Round 2. Additionally, the Russian former champ managed to evade numerous takedowns, a total of seven during the entire fight. Building on his success and combinations in Round 3, Petr also added a big takedown, finishing the fight on top. As expected things went his way with the judges announcing the winner by unanimous decision in the end.
Fans react to Petr Yan’s comeback win at UFC 299
Despite a great start to the card, things eventually slowed down by the time the main card rolled around. Although Curtis Blaydes vs. Jailton Almeida did wake some people up, the action on display in the first fight of the main card was truly unparalleled. Whilst Petr Yan did what he always does, Song Yadong also gave as good as he got.
Just managing to edge out the 26-year-old Chinese fighter, Yan showed why he still deserved to be at the top of the sport. With his fights in any way being against the best of the best, losing out by narrow margins was always bound to happen. However, few have the caliber and the wherewithal to recover from it, and Yan is one of them. All things considered, fans were more than happy to see him return to winning ways.
Taking so social media, fans wrote, “Thank you PETER Yan for this fight,” “PETR YAN IS OFFICIALLY BACK!! Future CHAMP ONCE AGAIN” and “Petr Yan is back!” As such, it appears as though order and balance are restored, and things are once again as they should be. Currently, it remains to be seen whether Yan’s win immediately throws him in for a title eliminator. Either way, the fans will be reveling in this win in the meantime.
