Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors are no longer in a position to defend their crown after being eliminated from the playoffs. It was a tough outing for the Warriors who visited the Crypto.com arena as they were knocked out. LeBron James once again was the one to send the Warriors packing in Game 6. This means the Los Angeles Lakers are now going to face the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals.

Steph managed to put in a strong shift and ended the night with a respectable 32-point performance. However, his team wasn’t just able to keep the Lakers at bay. With the loss, memes started rolling out on Steph as he is eliminated by LeBron. One of the inside jokes in the NBA is players going to Cancun. After getting eliminated, memes are out of the bag, and Curry has traveled to Cancun to chill.

Nah no way Steph Curry was already spotted in Cancun 😭😭

This is y’all’s goat? ☠️ Enjoy your vacation pal. Hehe pic.twitter.com/3qhQYseTZw

On Twitter, Suspect Sports, have brought out the Cancun joke on every player who has been eliminated from the playoffs. The page eventually brought out the memes on Steph after his loss against the Lakers. “Nah no way Steph Curry was already spotted in Cancun This is y’all’s goat?  Enjoy your vacation pal. Hehe,” the tweet captioned. However, to be honest, these are just memes, and nowhere true. That is, all of this is for entertainment purposes, and Curry is not in Cancun.

The photos added by the page are from last year in February and August, when Curry and his wife, Ayesha went on a trip. The photos are from their trip to Mexico and Fiji, in 2022. Hence, it is clear to note that the tweet is misleading and created to poke the players out of the race for an NBA title.

Stephen Curry is subjected to Nick Van Exel’s ‘Cancun’ joke after being eliminated from the playoffs

The Cancun Joke is one of the most popular jokes in the NBA, however, not many fans are aware of it. This joke went viral a few years back, and people started to catch on. Last year the Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated from the playoffs, and the crew of NBA on TNT threw a few Cancun jokes, on the team. The entire Lakers team was in the photo, who could be seen enjoying their time in Cancun after being eliminated from the playoffs.

It’s funny how Van Exel’s alleged “Cancun on 3” chant about 25 years ago evolved into everyone referencing that as the NBA player post playoffs destination of choice when clowning guys for losing, even though I don’t think dudes have that as one of their top choices.

The Cancun Joke, however, was created back in 1998, when the Los Angeles Lakers were on the brink of elimination. At the time, Nick Van Exel played for the Lakers who were already 3-0 in the Western Conference Finals. However, after a practice session, Exel uttered the words Cancun in a huddle. He had already made plans to visit Cancun after being eliminated. The Lakers were eliminated by the Utah Jazz and Exel was traded in the offseason.

In the last few years, it has become popular. Players are picked on who is eliminated in the playoffs and go to spend time as they are no longer part of the season.
