The New England Patriots once used to be one of the top contenders in the NFL. However, the team has been suffering severely for quite some time now. Even this season, the Patriots have a terrible record of 2-8. Some reports suggest that the team might soon fire head coach Bill Belichick for the team’s poor performance. Now, Warren Sapp has made a huge comment on Belichick involving Tom Brady.
Born in December 1972, Sapp is a former Las Vegas Raiders‘ defensive tackle. He recently appeared on the ‘Fearless With Jason Whitlock’ podcast. There, Sapp talked about Belichick and his coaching era with the Patriots. During the conversation, the Florida-born star openly attacked the Patriots HC verbally. He mentioned how he feels like Belichick owes his coaching career to Tom Brady.

“All that Patriot way s–t is out the window. You can’t go recreate it somewhere else.”
Sapp added: “It’s time to go to… https://t.co/bd1nHNoxu8 pic.twitter.com/SHdunlWnqH

“Tom Brady is the reason why you’re Bill Belichick. Lawrence Taylor is the reason why you’re Bill Belichick… Maybe the greatest football player on offense, and maybe the greatest football player on defense to ever be in the National Football League. Bill, that’s who you owe that to. All that Patriot way sh– is out the window… It’s time to go to the couch, the game is over,” he said.
Sapp made it clear that the 71-year-old coach is nothing without Brady and Lawrence Taylor. He further went on to mention how people who worked under him have been suffering as coaches as well. The 6-foot-2 player gave the example of Raiders HC Josh McDaniels whom the team recently fired.
It’s quite obvious that the Hall of Famer is among the people who want Bill Belichick to retire. Considering the HC’s stats without Tom Brady, Sapp’s comments don’t come up as a surprise.
A look at Bill Belichick’s record with and without Tom Brady
Bill Belichick became the head coach for the Patriots in 2000. The same year, NFL legend Tom Brady entered the team as their 199th pick in the 6th round of the NFL draft. Born in August 1977, the star QB couldn’t get to start for the team in his rookie year. However, after the Tuck rule game, he proved to be the best quarterback in the history of the entire league.
Tom Brady and Belichick were together till the 6-foot-4 QB joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. With Brady, the Tennessee-born coach had a phenomenal 136-39 record. This was exceptional but it was probably all thanks to the great performance of the NFL GOAT. That’s because, without the 46-year-old player, Belichick has a terrible 82-98 record.
Together, Tom Brady and Belichick appeared in 9 Super Bowls and won 6 out of them. They won 219 games together and had 17 AFC East titles during their 20 seasons. After Brady left the team, the Patriots haven’t made even a single AFC appearance. Now, the team’s performance has deteriorated so much that they are considering firing the HC.
Now, it’ll be interesting to see how the Patriots perform the rest of this season. It’s the only factor that can decide Belichick‘s fate with the team as for now, he is expected to lose his HC position.
