Cody Rhodes is currently one of the top WWE superstars. Since his return to WWE last year, he has continuously risen to prominence. He has been a part of several pay-per-view events and has presented top-notch matches to the wrestling Universe. With his personality and exceptional in-ring skills, he has even created a massive fanbase for himself. However, it seems not everyone is happy with him.
Recently, former WWE booker Vince Russo made an appearance on Busted Open Radio. During that, the 62-year-old wrestling legend shared his views about Cody Rhodes. He stated that The American Nightmare is “not over to the casual fan. He’s not“. Russo then went on to say that he has absolutely no interest in watching RAW. It is to be noted that Rhodes is an active member of the RAW roster.

Russo added, “If there was a mega-star on that show, I would want to watch him. That’s what a casual fan is, bro. … If it’s good, I’m gonna watch it. If it’s bad, I’m gonna watch something else”. The former WCW booker not only criticized Rhodes but also WWE’s booking of Rhodes’ character. He mentioned that the Triple H-led promotion has done nothing with the former AEW star.
He said, “They’ve done nothing with this guy, outside of (having) him go out there every week and say, ‘Farmingville, New York, what do you want to talk about?’ Cody doesn’t write the show. They’ve done nothing with him”.
Thus, though fans absolutely adore The American Nightmare, it seems the former WWE personality believes that WWE couldn’t make Cody a “megastar“. However, it now remains to be seen if Rhodes will have anything to say in response to what Russo stated.
Vince Russo does not think Cody Rhodes should dethrone Roman Reigns
It is not the first time Vince Russo has shared his opinions about Cody Rhodes. He has previously stated that he does not think the former AEW Superstar should be the one to dethrone Roman Reigns.
Previously, at the Grandest Stage of Them All at WrestleMania 39, Cody Rhodes faced The Tribal Chief in the main event of Night 2, with the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on the line. However, following interference from the rest of The Bloodline, Cody failed to dethrone Reigns.
Anyways, The American Nightmare previously stated that winning the title from The Tribal Chief is his ultimate aim in WWE. Thus, it is obvious that the story between Reigns and Rhodes isn’t over yet, and they might collide once again in the future. However, Vince doesn’t think Cody should get the win then as well.
During an appearance, the former WWE booker stated that instead of Cody Rhodes, it should be a new member of The Bloodline who will dethrone the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
He said, “If I’m writing this and the whole storyline has been The Bloodline, then it’s got to be a passing of the torch in The Bloodline. To have an outsider like Cody come back in?…that’s why I’m saying, it’s got to be somebody new and fresh arriving on the scene and this is where he starts”.
Thus, Vince Russo has a variety of opinions regarding Cody Rhodes, his present booking, and even his future. However, only time will tell how the Stamford-based promotion will go ahead with Rhodes and what plans they have in store for the fan-favorite superstar.
