- In what was her first ever appearance for the Jacksonville-based promotion, the female star received a massive pop.
Mercedes Monè shocked the entire pro wrestling industry when she made her AEW debut at Dynamite: Big Business in Boston. Opening the March 13 show, the former WWE star received a thunderous ovation from the live crowd as the fans took over the arena with chants for the fan-favorite superstar.
Later, it was confirmed that Mercedes had signed a multi-year deal with All Elite Wrestling, and since then, she has been in the limelight. Ever since she made her first appearance, Monè has been called the biggest female signing in AEW’s history. But now the promotion’s president has given her a bigger tag.
It happened during Tony Khan’s recent appearance on NBC10 Boston, as he and Banks appeared on the show to promote their organization. On the show, Khan called The CEO the face of his company, and also explained why she is the perfect choice for this major role.

Praising the former WWE star’s passion for the industry, Tony said, “Mercedes (Monè) is not only someone who loves the wrestling business, loves getting in the ring, and wrestling, but loves the fans. That’s what we are about in AEW, and that’s why Mercedes is perfect to be the face of AEW.”
Such comments by the Jacksonville-based promotion’s president signify the kind of trust the company has in The CEO. With Monè still in her initial days with the promotion, it remains to be seen how the organization handles her. In fact, it’ll be interesting to see how long it will take her to win the women’s title in AEW.
Why did Mercedes Monè choose AEW over WWE?
As soon as Monè made her debut for the Tony Khan-led promotion, the female star was able to put the industry on notice. But the WWE Universe wasn’t happy that she decided to join AEW over the Triple H-led promotion, as they have been wondering what the reason behind it was.
In this regard, it must be noted that after Sasha became a free agent, predictions were being made that she might return to her previous workplace. But The Boss and WWE were far apart in terms of money, as she was demanding Becky Lynch-level money. Speaking about it in an interview with ESPN, the newest AEW star said, “Money changes everything. I’m always about that bag. Absolutely.”
It was obvious from her statement, Tony Khan probably offered her a lot more money than what she was offered by their biggest rival, it was why Mercedes decided to join the Jacksonville-based promotion. With this move she might have made a lot more money, but it’ll be interesting to see if her signing can help AEW in boosting their ratings and sales.
Mercedes Monè is now the highest paid female pro wrestler
As it was revealed that money played a major role in The CEO’s decision to join All Elite Wrestling, fans wondered how much she got. In this regard, it must be noted that Mercedes Monè, even though the exact amount she got hasn’t been revealed, is enough to make her the highest-paid female professional wrestler in the history of the industry.

With the former NJPW star getting a huge amount of money from AEW, it’s understandable why she decided to sign with the promotion. Before Mone, All Elite Wrestling also grabbed the opportunity to sign Kazuchika Okada, and such signings might be a sign of worry for WWE. So, it remains to be seen if the Stamford-based promotion decides to break their bank to sign free agents in the near future or not.
