Speaking about it, UFC President Dana White revealed, “This is one of the most electric press conferences of all time”. Further, he continued, “So Saturday night, $13.75 million gate we broke our record from last time, the highest gate ever in the arena’s history. Miami, you are awesome, Thank you!” With the UFC’s recent successes in Miami, it was natural that the promotion would soon mark its return.
With that said, their return to Miami for UFC 287 last year was a much-talked-about one. Considering that the promotion had come for their first Miami event in 20 years, the response was overwhelmingly positive. For that occasion, two of the biggest stars on the roster, Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira headlined the show. In addition to that they had one of their own, Jorge Masvidal on the card as well.
Where does UFC 299 rank among other highest-grossing gates in UFC history?
For the most part, there has been a lot of talk about the success of UFC 299 and its being one of the highest-grossing gates. In the past, we’ve heard Dana White carelessly throw around the ‘MSG-type’ gate phrase for every big event. However, in reality only a few reach that noteworthy milestone. So how does the upcoming UFC 299 stack up? Let’s find out.
As White mentioned, UFC 299 is bringing in a $13.75 million gate, which is more than their previous outing (UFC 287, $$11.9 million) last year. With that said, the number is also higher than UFC 295, with a gate of $12,432,563, and UFC 285 which had a gate of $12.15 million. Notably, these were two of the biggest and highest-grossing gates in recent history but were still away from breaking into the top 3 highest-grossing gates in UFC history.
Per. Dana White at the #UFC299 Press Conference, the gate for UFC 299 is $13.75M, making it the 4th highest gate in #UFC history, behind:
1) UFC 205: Alvarez vs McGregor
2) UFC 229: Nurmagomedov vs McGregor
3) UFC 264: Poirier vs McGregor 3 pic.twitter.com/I4ghHLvjMP— Championship Rounds (@ChampRDS) March 8, 2024
However, with the latest event bringing in $13.75 million, many have wondered where it places on the all-time list. Notably, the biggest gate in UFC history remains UFC 205: Alvarez vs. McGregor which boasts a mind-boggling gate of $17,700,000 ($17.7 million). In second place, we have UFC 229: Khabib vs. McGregor with a $17.2 million gate, and in third UFC UFC 264: Poirier vs. McGregor 3 with a gate of $15.75 million.
Thus, we have a new addition to the list with UFC 299, replacing UFC 295 as the fourth highest-grossing gate in UFC history. A massive feat to accomplish, it will give the company a much-needed boost ahead of the massive year in store. At the same time, the gate also raises questions about Sean O’Malley’s much-refuted star power. However, considering their reaction, it is clear that the fans are tuning in for the rest of the fighters as well.
