SUMMARY
- In a podcast episode, Dana White gives a fascinating update on the main event at UFC 300.
- Previously, Dana White said that only two fights were yet to be announced for UFC 300.
UFC 300 is shaping up to be one of the biggest nights of action in all of combat sports in 2024. Owing to the massive hype and anticipation behind it, the event has been much talked about by fans. However, they have been left confused by the latest twist in the tale given by UFC President Dana White.
Recently, Dana appeared on the latest episode of the FULL SEND PODCAST with the Nelk Boys. Throughout the podcast, he was prompted by Bob Menery to announce the main event for UFC 300. After constant pokes on the matter, the UFC head honcho finally caved and revealed what was going on behind the scenes.
Speaking about the event, White said, “There are so many twists and turns, and crazy f****ing s*** going on behind the scenes of UFC 300″. Further, he added, “We have one more slot to fill mid-level, and then we have the main event. Main event is not known right now. I know what I’m trying to do [for the main event], but what I’m trying to do and what’s gonna happen could end up being two completely different things“.
All things considered, the 54-year-old seemingly admitted that there is currently chaos inside the ‘War Room’ at UFC. As per Dana White, numerous ideas can still happen, but nothing is solid yet. In the meantime, the statements from White were seen as somewhat contrasting to what he said on Friday evening.
Dana White seemingly retracts his previous statement
Previously, following the recent Power Slap event, Dana White appeared before the media. As has been the case in the past few weeks, he was once again crowded with questions regarding UFC 300. Once again, the CEO and President admitted that things were very much still in the balance and that a lot of work was still to be done.
Notably, White admitted, on two separate occasions, that a co-main event was yet to be decided. “Co-main event and another one.” responded Dana when asked about the remaining fights. Thus, it was assumed that the remaining two fights on the card would be the main and co-main events, respectively. However, his latest statements indicate that only the main event and a mid-level fight are yet to be decided.

Whilst it is an understandably confusing situation, Dana’s statements about ‘crazy twists and turns‘ also come to mind. Moreover, it is entirely possible that the podcast was shot before the Power Slap presser but released afterward. As such, it is entirely possible that there may have been new developments within that time period, owing to conflicting statements made by the UFC boss.
What is going on with UFC 300?
It is quite evident that UFC 300 requires the final pieces of the puzzle on the top of the card. Considering that the main card currently consists of Xhang Weili vs. Yan Xiaonan, Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway, and Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan, there is room for two more title fights on the card. Although some fans were resigned to having Weili as the co-main, the fans and the UFC themselves likely want something better.
Following White’s latest statements, a few things were made clear. Firstly, the possibility of a Jon Jones turnaround was ruled out. With the heavyweight champ revealing that he was given the opportunity, he deemed the 9-week period as short notice. Similarly, Dana seemingly has an idea of what he wants the main event to be. However, making it possible remains a different matter entirely.

Lastly, there were also rumors of White potentially shooting the announcement video at Super Bowl 2024 this weekend. However, considering the current uncertainties, it looks like an unlikely possibility. With numerous names touted as potential headliners, the UFC could still cook up something special. In the meantime, they will need to make it quick, as fans are slowly turning on them for their indecision.
