UFC President Dana White sent the MMA world into a frenzy after UFC 286. Following the incredible showing from Leon Edwards at UFC 286 against Kamaru Usman, White revealed that Colby Covington will be the next in line. Usually, one would think that the announcement would excite the fans, but that has not been the case.
Commentator Jon Anik has been one such figure who does not think Covington was the most deserving candidate for the title shot. Although Dana White has been bullish about the fact that Colby is getting the title shot, Jon Anik thinks Belal Muhammad is the ideal candidate. In a tweet after the recently concluded London PPV, Anik took to Twitter to reveal his thoughts.

However, as one can imagine, Colby Covington is not a big fan of the comments. In his mind, Colby deserved the title shot and he even dismissed Kamaru Usman as the most credible threat to Edwards. According to Covington, he is the real threat to Leon’s throne. But the Miami native did not stop there. During the same interview with MMA FIGHTING, Covington also issued a death threat to Jon Anik.
Colby added, “So you wanted to lick my b*lls in London, ‘Oh Colby this this this.’ Then you want to go back behind the stage and cheerlead for a racist. So he associates with racism and Belal Muhammad. And, you know Jon Anik, dude, I don’t want your kids to grow up without a dad. Just realize you live in Boca, I live in Miami motherf***er, you’re not too far from me. So you better shut your f***ing mouth. You poke the bear, now you get the bear comes after you.”
Fans defend Jon Anik after Colby Covington issues a death threat
Colby Covington has his fan base for sure. However, he is one of the most polarizing figures in the sport as well. On the other hand, Jon Anik is universally loved by the MMA fan base. Anik’s humility and his charm have won over the fans and they are completely on the side of the UFC commentator. After Colby Covington’s seeming death threat, fans came in bulk to support Jon Anik.

“The Chaos” has a history of going after people that he does not agree with. Once, Covington even threatened UFC commentator Joe Rogan and stated that he would beat up the veteran if they ever come across him. However, that clearly has not happened. So it is entirely likely that Covington is expressing his frustrations with Anik’s comments and he does not have intentions of harming him.

However, it has allowed Belal Muhammad to have a field day on Twitter. He reminded the fans about Colby’s infamous rant on Brazilians after the 35-year-old accused him of being a racist. Belal also claimed that Covington had several chances of fighting him and declined every time. So Belal will have to wait for his shot at the title as Dana White revealed that he is working on matching “Bully B” up with Shavkat Rakhmonov.
