Despite having recently retired from the sport of MMA, UFC welterweight Jorge ‘Gamebred‘ Masvidal keeps making rounds one way or another. The 38-year-old has been a part of several controversies outside the cage in recent years. However, this time, it is his father who seems to have landed in trouble, a big one at it.
The South Florida police have reportedly arrested Jorge Masvidal Sr. after allegedly shooting someone at the retired MMA fighter’s house. According to the Miami-Dade police, Masvidal Jr. wasn’t present during the time of the ordeal.
Cops were called to Jorge’s home around 3 pm after an alleged shooting. Upon arrival, the authorities witnessed Miami-Dade Fire Rescue providing aid to an adult male. The unidentified victim has told police he was in an argument with Masvidal Sr. and upon its escalation the accused took out a firearm and shot him.

The victim has since been transported to a hospital and is in stable condition now. Fox Sports 640 Miami reported that the shooter is believed to be Jorge Masvidal Sr.
In a statement provided to DailyMail.com, the police said, “All occupants of the residence exited the home where units took the subject into custody without incident. The relationship between all parties on scene has not been confirmed, however, all parties know each other.”
“The listed owner of the residence is Jorge Masvidal Jr. He was not present during the incident and did not have any involvement,” the statement continued.
Detectives currently await to interview the accused. During the time of this incident, Jorge was out promoting ‘Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA.’ The former title challenger and highly successful athlete has recently created the first and only professional bare-knuckle MMA league in the States and will host it at the FLA Live Arena on May 5.
Jorge Masvidal Sr. was previously sentenced to twenty years in prison
Jorge Masvidal Sr., or as his son calls him, Jorge ‘Kalifa,’ was born and raised in Cuba. In his 20s, Masvidal Sr. immigrated to the States to escape communism in Cuba. Shortly after, he made Miami his new home in 1971.
In an attempt to start a new life, Masvidal Sr. secured a job at a construction company. However, he discovered that the income wasn’t sufficient to fulfill his family’s daily needs. This forced him to turn to shady businesses, but little did he know it’d soon catch up to him.
Masvidal Sr. would soon get arrested on charges of drug trafficking, with Jorge being only 4 years old at the time. The authorities had sentenced Jorge Sr. to a 20-year sentence. The UFC vet had no idea of his father’s whereabouts until the age of 13 when his mother, who’d initially lied to Masvidal about his father being in the army, spilled the beans.
Since then, Jorge has made prison visits to his father once a week until he turned twenty-one. It is worth mentioning that he served 18 years of time and got out on parole. Even though he wasn’t allowed to leave Florida, he violated the parole once in order to attend one of Jorge’s fights in Trenton, New Jersey.
