WrestleMania 40 was one of the most highly anticipated events in pro wrestling this year. Owing to a solid buildup and numerous storylines, the fans were very keen to see how things would pan out. Naturally, one of the biggest talking points from the night was Dwayne Johnson.
For those unaware, ‘The Rock’ was in action in the main event of WrestleMania 40 alongside Roman Reigns. In what was the main attraction for Night 1, The Bloodline took on Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes. With heavy implications for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match on Night 2, on the line, the wrestlers left it all on the line.

Throughout the match, we saw numerous near falls, with Rollins and Rhodes looking to pin Reigns and The Rock simultaneously. Despite that and a couple more such instances, The Bloodline managed to take the win after Dwayne Johnson delivered The Rock Bottom, followed by The People’s Elbow, before pinning Cody Rhodes.
Did Dwayne Johnson suffer a knee injury during his match?
Naturally, there was a lot of talk regarding The Rock’s return to the ring. Now 51 years old, the WWE and Hollywood superstar wrestling an actual full-length match after 11 years. Previously, his performance against Eric Rowan lasted only 6 seconds, thus it cannot be taken into account. With that said, it was quite evident that DJ has slowed down over the years, and the WWE did its best to script the fight around it.
Notably, a lot of the fight took place outside the ring, which helped to hide Johnson’s shortcomings inside the ring. With that said, he also had somewhat of a torrid time, finding himself on the end of one of Roman Reigns’ spears as well, which he sold brilliantly. However, fans have since gone back to the performance bringing up one more key moment.
During his battle with Seth Rollins inside the ring, DJ struck his opponent, before falling back on the corner, with his knees seemingly buckling under the pressure. Despite this, he managed to carry on delivering a very respectable performance overall. Naturally, the fans took to social media to show their concern for the same.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson speaks about his future in the WWE
Following the win, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson also appeared for the Press Conference ahead of a likely appearance on Night 2 of WrestleMania 40. With a ‘Bloodline Rules’ match between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes set for the main event, it is understood that DJ will probably have some sort of involvement as well.
However, based on what he had to say, Johnson is likely planning to stick around in the WWE for much more than just the immediate future:
“There might be (on more matches for The Rock in the future). I can’t elaborate much on that but there might be. I love what I do and I love our business, and I was born into our business. We’ll see.”
“I don’t want this ‘Final Boss’ run to be finite. I want it to continue. I love professional wrestling. It’s in my DNA .”
“We’re not only building for WrestleMania, this weekend, but also for beyond, for the future.”
Thus, considering that The Rock doubled and tripled down on his future involvement, along with the fact that he was so well-received, all signs point to us seeing him again. Not only that, we are likely going to see him play as big of a role as he is playing right now. Considering that there are endless creative possibilities for his story, it will be interesting to see what the WWE and Triple H can cook up for him next.
