A lot of NFL teams have made some big changes, firing their coaches. In the season of 2022, four NFL coaches were fired. The Carolina Panthers discontinued Matt Rhule during the season.
Another addition to the list was Frank Reich, the head coach who was fired by the Indianapolis Colts after a few weeks when the news emerged about Matt Rhule. Nathaniel Hackett also suffered the same fate, as he was fired by the Denver Broncos after week 16 of the ongoing NFL season.

Some sports analysts and fans wanted some of these coaches not to continue with the team. But in the case of Rhule, he was unwanted by the team owner himself, David Tepper.

Tepper conveyed how he feels about the team’s poor performance and regretted signing him. Black Monday is the day after a season when coaches usually get relieved from their duty. Kliff Kingsbury, the Arizona Cardinals head coach was recently fired by the team owner.

It was very obvious that this news would come someday because of his records with Arizona. In 20 league matches, Arizona lost 17 games under Kingsbury. After four seasons with the Cardinals, his stats were 28-37-1.

The surprising fact is Kingsbury was hired back in 2019 and is fired in 2023. But 10 months ago, the Cardinals extended his contract up to the 2027 season. He did say he was miserable and was having an extremely bad season. With all these firings NFL teams have added up a whopping amount of $800M.
NFL teams spent $800M on fired coaches
The firing of NFL coaches and general managers is inevitable and cannot be avoided in the sports industry. But according to NFL officials, the league’s 32 franchises have spent $800 million on fired coaches.
The Panthers fired their head coach Matt Rhule with four years remaining on his seven-year contract which was worth $60 million. Recently Kliff Kingsbury was fired too and he had a contract extension till 2027.

Many people predicted that several coaches might get relieved from their duties in the 2022 season. The fans and the team owners were showing their frustrations as well. With bad records and losing streaks, some teams had to get rid of their head coaches but this led them to lose a lot of money.
The NFL talked about how to act patiently and systematically when it comes to money management and relieving personnel from their roles.

Getting sacked is an unavoidable result in the sports industry. Similar to NFL, soccer also follows the same policy where managers are fired if the teams do not perform. While four coaches lost their jobs last year, there will be more additions to the list as 2023 progresses.
