Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has made his mark as a business tycoon as well. The former WWE champion has proven that he is not just a one-trick pony with his impressive filmography and box office success, but also with his shrewd business acumen.
‘The Most Electrifying Man’ and his former spouse, Dany Garcia, have successfully ventured into the business world as co-owners of multiple companies. One of their biggest deals together is the ownership of the XFL.
Last year, the power duo made a splash when they took the stage at the ESPY awards. They took the opportunity to shed light on their football league and emphasize that the XFL is poised to provide a new avenue for football players who have yet to secure a spot on a standard NFL roster.
This very talented young boy did an AMAZING job singing our National Anthem before our @XFLBrahmas vs @XFLBattlehawks game 👏🏾👏🏾 🇺🇸
25,000 fans loved it!! As did I! #XFL #AlamoDome #SanAntonio https://t.co/PeW9qfbXSd— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) February 20, 2023
During his speech, The Rock explained why he did he and his former wife bought the XFL. Dwayne explained that after all these years, he still remembers the struggle he had to face when he was in the NFL, trying to make it big. However, he only faced disappointments.
“Making it to the NFL was the greatest thing that never happened to me. As many in this room know, there are 53 men on an NFL roster. Well, I was always number 54. You’re good, but you’re not good enough. Now that chip that was put on my shoulder will never go away. But that same chip has become a blessing because it’s exactly what brought me here. To deliver a league of opportunity. An opportunity that I never had.” said The Rock.
Given Johnson’s firsthand experience with being the odd-man-out during roster cuts, he identifies strongly with the concept of a Player 54. This is something he actively promotes when attending XFL player tryouts, as he recently did at the HBCU Showcase in Jackson, Mississippi.
Relationship between Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia
Unlike the typical narrative of Hollywood breakups, where accusations and mudslinging dominate the tabloid headlines, the separation of Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia was a surprisingly amicable and dignified affair.
In 2007, Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia announced their amicable separation on June 1st. The couple first crossed paths at the University of Miami in the early 1990s. Johnson earned a football scholarship to the institution while Garcia pursued a degree in Business Administration.
Since their divorce, the duo has successfully ventured into the business world as co-owners of multiple companies. Garcia holds the positions of CEO and Chairperson at The Garcia Companies and is the brains behind the operation. Together, the dynamic duo has spearheaded several ventures, including Acorns, Zoa Energy, and Seven Bucks Productions, which have all achieved great success.
Cool moment in sports to have our @XFL2023 Chairwoman and the first female owner of an American sports league @DanyGarciaCo’s signature on our new XFL ball.
Dany’s passion is a reflection of our empowering XFL culture we’re creating.

All in all, the presence of Garcia and Johnson at the ESPY awards demonstrated their commitment to promoting XFL and its mission to provide a platform for talented football players who have been overlooked by the NFL. With their passion and dedication, it’s clear that the XFL has a bright future ahead of it.
