SUMMARY
- The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers by 25-22.
- Despite winning Super Bowl 58, the Chiefs couldn't achieve one unique record.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ glorious campaign etched their name in the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the fourth time in the Super Bowl LVIII after defeating the San Francisco 49ers by 25-22. Two consecutive titles in the span of two years serve as a gentle reminder of the Chiefs’ rise to prominence in recent years.
However, their third title in the span of five years was still not enough for them to secure a unique record. And if the Chiefs had done it against all the odds, it would have further cemented their legacy in the football arena.

The Chiefs couldn’t rewrite the history of remaining unbeaten through the season. The 50-year record that the Miami Dolphins once made in the 1972–73 season got one more year added to its name.
Although the Kansas City Chiefs were far from remaking history, they faced the jaws of defeat six times during the league stage. Having played 17 games in the West Conference of the American Football League, they only managed to win 11 of those, thus accumulating a total pct of.647.
Miami Dolphin’s 1972 season record
In the history of the NFL, few records are meant to be untouchable. One of those records was made by the Miami Dolphins back in the 1972–73 season, which is intact to date. The Dolphins showed sheer mastery of the game when they went undefeated through the entire season.
Led by Hall of Famer coach Don Shula, the team finished the campaign with a record of 17-0. They kept their incredible form even during the later stages of the tournament, where they defeated the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl VII.

The degree of resilience shown by the players from that Dolphins squad that season even gets praised by the OGs to date. The season earned the Dolphins six Pro Football Hall of Fame players. Some of the notable players on the team were linebacker Nick Buoniconti, running back Larry Csonka, quarterback Bob Griese, center Jim Langer, guard Larry Little, and wide receiver Paul Warfield.
In that season, Larry Csonka managed to rush for a total of 1,117 yards, while Mercury Morris ran for 1,000 yards. This made the Dolphins one of only seven teams in the history of the NFL to have two rushers with over 1,000 yards in the same season. Additionally, the Dolphins were the first team to achieve this feat in a 14-game season.
Which is the only unbeaten team to face defeat in the Super Bowl
Unlike the Dolphins, who went all the way to glory, remaining undefeated, there is one such team whose dreams of Super Bowl glory were dashed in the final moments of the championship game.

It takes us back to the 2007–08 season. Playing their 38th season and their eighth under head coach Bill Belichick, the New England Patriots went on to win all their games only to lose in the Super Bowl XLII.
The Patriots won all 14 games in the league stage before winning the divisional round and the conference championships. However, the New York Giants stood tall against the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, winning the all-important tie 17–14.
