Right at the turn of the new year, NFL fans witnessed a terrible accident on the field. During a game between Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals, Damar Hamlin suffered a big health scare.
The safety player made a rough tackle against the Bengal’s wide receiver, Tee Higgins. It was a crucial interception and he jumped up immediately to celebrate after the move.
However, he then collapsed on the field suddenly without any prior signs of palpitation. But, NFL teams often employ world-class physicians and they rushed in to help. Immediately afterward, Hamlin was provided CPR and then was taken to the hospital.
CPR is usually administered when the patient’s heart stops functioning. After his admission to the hospital, reports confirmed that he was in critical condition. The game between Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals was postponed for a later date.

His vitals are back to normal and they have put him to sleep to put a breathing tube down his throat. They are currently running tests.
We will provide updates as we have them.
At present, Damar is admitted to the University of Cincinnati Hospital. As per Jordon Rooney, who is close to Hamlin’s team, the 24-year-old’s “vitals are back to normal.” The doctors have also attached a breathing tube to stabilize his condition. However, there is no proper update on what caused his sudden collapse.
Damar Hamlin’s situation also draws parallels with what happened to Christian Eriksen in 2021. Eriksen is a Danish soccer player who plays for Manchester United. During the EUROS in 2021, the soccer star collapsed while playing for his country against Finland. While he had the ball on his feet, Eriksen collapsed all of a sudden and was given CPR.
The midfield player later underwent surgery to have a heart-starter device implanted. While some feared that Eriksen would never play soccer at the top level again, he made a successful recovery and resumed his playing career in the English Premier League (EPL). He signed for Manchester United in the 2022-23 season.
Who is NFL safety player Damar Hamlin?
As previously mentioned, Damar Hamlin is a safety player in the NFL team Buffalo Bills. He was born on 24th March 1998. He played high school football for Pittsburgh Central Catholic. Then, Damar played collegiate football for the University of Pittsburgh. Hamline was one of the brightest prospects and he was drafted in 2021. The Bills picked him up in the 6th round of the drafts.

His NFL stats are impressive as well. In his debut season in 2021, Damar Hamlin played 14 games and registered 2 pass defenses. But his stats in the ongoing 2022 season is much better. In his 15 games, Hamline has 2 pass defenses, 1.5 sacks, and 28 assisted tackles. He has also made 54 tackles in the season on his own. Whereas in 2021, he made only 1 tackle throughout the season.
Hence, it is certainly unfortunate that Damar Hamlin suffered a health scare right in the middle of his breakthrough season in the NFL. But at the moment, it is unclear what exactly went wrong and when he will be able to play once more.
