Many players have signed new contracts and extensions, and Jonathan Taylor has joined the list. The star running has been exceptional ever since his NFL debut. However, even after his contribution to the Indianapolis Colts, his place in the team was in question for quite some time. But, reports now suggest that Taylor has signed a contract extension with the Colts.
Adam Schefter, ESPN’s journalist, revealed on X that the 24-year-old RB and the Colts have come to an agreement. Jonathan Taylor has signed a 3-year contract extension with the team. As per reports, it’s a massive contract worth $42 million along with a signing bonus of $26.5 million. The NFL star will get an average yearly salary of $14 million as per the deal.
Sources to ESPN: Jonathan Taylor and the Colts reached agreement on a three-year, $42 million contract extension, including $26.5M guaranteed, that makes him one of the league’s highest-paid RBs and clears him to make his season debut Sunday vs. Titans.

There has been a feud between Jonathan Taylor and the Colts owner Jim Isray. However, reports suggest that they decided to come together and solve the issues. Both parties finally came to terms, resulting in the contract extension. This deal comes after the rookie contract the New Jersey-born RB signed with the team in 2020.
It’s worth noting that the first contract Taylor, 226 lb, signed with the Colts was worth $7.8 million. It was a 4-year contract along with a signing bonus of $3.2 million and $4.2 million guaranteed. The difference between the two contracts is quite obvious, highlighting why Jonathan Taylor wanted a hike.
Now that Jonathan Taylor has signed the extension, it further adds more power to the Indianapolis Colts. The 5-foot-10 star will reportedly play his 1st match this season against the Tennessee Titans.
Is Jonathan Taylor the highest-paid RB after the contract extension?
The differences between the Indianapolis Colts and Jonathan Taylor are over with the contract extension. It all began after the team put him on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list. After that, Taylor requested the team to release him, but the Colts weren’t ready for it. However, reports suggest that the Colts finally activated him off the list on October 7.
Now, with the contract extension, the Wisconsin star has become one of the highest-paid RBs currently. The extension makes Taylor the 1st RB to sign a long-term deal of more than $10 million after Nick Chubb. However, it’s worth noting that Jonathan Taylor is not the highest-paid running back in the NFL.
As per reports, 49ers star Christian McCaffrey is the highest-paid RB at present. He signed a 4-year contract worth $64 million with an average yearly salary of $16.01 million. After him comes Saints RB Alvin Kamara with a salary of $15 million. He signed a contract worth $75 million with the team for 5 years. At No. 3 comes Jonathan Taylor with an average salary of $14 million.
After an extended feud, Jonathan Taylor is all set to play for the Colts for 3 more years. Now, it’ll be interesting to see how the January 1999-born star performs this season.
