Russell Wilson is undoubtedly among the most talented quarterbacks in the NFL presently. The veteran player has both skills and experience which makes him valuable. Wilson began his NFL journey with the Seattle Seahawks in 2012. The team drafted him in his rookie year as the 75th pick in the third round. Presently, Wilson is playing for the Denver Broncos.
Russell Wilson began his NFL career on a small note as his first contract was worth only $2.99 million. The quarterback signed the deal with the Seattle Seahawks in May 2012. In November of that year, Wilson led the Seahawks to a 28-7 victory against the New York Jets. It further helped him win the NFL Rookie Of The Year in 2012.

After spending 10 years with the Seahawks, Russell Wilson finally made a move. In March last year, the NFL star joined the Denver Broncos, as the Seahawks traded him. In September 2022, signed a massive $245 million contract with the Broncos. It was reportedly a 5-year deal with $165 guaranteed and a signing bonus of $124 million.
As per the contract, Russell Wilson will get an average yearly salary of $48.5 million with the Broncos. The quarterback’s present average salary is more than half of the whole 4-year contract extension he signed with the Seahawks. According to the present contract, Wilson will stay with the Broncos for 6 more years. That’s because it includes the 2 previous contract years he has pending with the Seahawks as well.
Russell Wilson has undoubtedly attained huge success in terms of both his performance and earnings. However, last year was not one to remember for the NFL star quarterback, as it was quite disappointing.
Is Russell Wilson on the verge of losing his place to Jarrett Stidham?
Russell Wilson exhibited amazing gameplay throughout his years with the Seattle Seahawks. However, last season, which was his first with the team, was a disaster for both him and the team. It even led to the suspension of the Broncos’ former head coach, Nathaniel Hackett. In this season, things are getting worse for Wilson as he’s about to lose his spot in the team.
As per reports, Sean Payton, the head coach of the team is planning to go with quarterback Jarrett Stidham. The 27-year-old quarterback impressed everyone with his performance against the Los Angeles Rams. In the game’s first half itself, Stidham made 28 pass attempts, out of which 17 were successful. The quarterback passed for 236 yards with 1 touchdown, leading the team to 27-0 in the first half.
ESPN‘s analyst Mike Tannenbaum, recently claimed that coach Payton will soon bench Russell Wilson. “I would be shocked if Russell Wilson was the starter for 17 games this season… If Russell Wilson has the smallest bump in the road, he will be benched,” Tannenbaum said.
With Stidham’s stellar performance, it won’t come as a shock if Russell Wilson loses his spot to him. However, the Super Bowl winner still has a lot more experience than Stidham. The 9-time Pro Bowl must be looking for an opportunity to prove his worth to the team.
