Damar Hamlin is currently in critical condition
There is still no word on what caused Hamlin to collapse or what his current condition is. The Detroit Lions released a statement saying that they are “praying for Damar and his family during this difficult time.” Fans and fellow players have taken to social media to offer their support as well.
Hamlin, a native of McKees Rock, Pennsylvania, was a standout at the University of Pittsburgh before being drafted by the Bills in the 2021 NFL draft. Playing in the role of safety, he served as a reserve for much of last year but has been a part of the Bills’ starting line-up in 2022. Together with that, he won the hearts of NFL fans when he organized toy drives in his town even before he got his first paycheck from the league.
This is not the first time that Hamlin has suffered from a health emergency. In 2016, he was hospitalized after suffering a seizure.
