Jonathan James McCarthy, more popularly known as JJ McCarthy, is a quarterback who plays college football for the Michigan Wolverines football team (University of Michigan). McCarthy is nineteen years old and was born in La Grange Park, which is located in Illinois. In high school, he attended the Nazareth Academy and later joined the IMG Academy in 2020.
JJ McCarthy was one of the most sought-after quarterbacks coming out of high school and received a stunning 33 offers from various schools! These included some top-notch teams such as the Wisconsin Badgers, LSU Tigers, Michigan State Spartans, and Texas Longhorns. Eventually, he decided to choose the Wolverines for his future.
McCarthy spent his freshman season at Michigan as a backup quarterback, featured in eleven games, and completed 34 passes out of 59 pass attempts for 516 passing yards along with five touchdowns. In the following season, JJ McCarthy went head-to-head with Cade McNamara (who currently plays for the Iowa Hawkeyes football team) for the position of starting quarterback.
JJ McCarthy made his first start against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and was declared the regular starter for them. He finished the season by completing 208 passes out of 322 pass attempts for 2,719 passing yards. Moreover, he recorded 22 touchdowns and five interceptions. He won the Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year in 2023 and was given first-team All-Big Ten honors as well.
JJ McCarthy and Katya Kuropas have been together since their high school days
JJ McCarthy has been in a long-term relationship with his girlfriend Katya Kuropas for five years. The two of them met while McCarthy was playing for the Nazareth Academy back in August 2018. They have been very close ever since then, and it was revealed that they were official after McCarthy decided to join the Wolverines.
JJ McCarthy and Katya Kuropas completed three years of their relationship in 2021, and the former posted a beautiful message on Instagram. McCarthy thanked Kuropas for her presence in his life and said he would not be in this position of life without her. He also added that Kuropas is a very kind soul.

Katya Kuropas is a student at Michigan State University. She is regularly seen in the stands supporting her boyfriend during the Wolverines games. Kuropas is an avid football fan and posts pictures on her social media when attending matches.
