SUMMARY
- It seems that football athletes in college don't get paid.
- The NCAA made a proposal for college athletes.
A new proposal by Charlie Baker, president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, stated that, like NFL players, college-level football stars will need to be paid for their contributions. Reports claim that the students who play football for their college team will be directly paid from the trust funds.
Besides being paid, the students will receive unlimited educational benefits, strike names and images, and make other significant deals with college candidates. If accepted, this move will be considered the most crucial shift in college. The impact of this shift will be huge; it is indeed the most significant change in the history of college football.
What are the key factors before the implementation of the proposal?
Multiple key factors need to be taken care of before the proposal is implemented. The first and foremost factor is the arrangement of money. If the proposal is implemented, Division I schools will be allowed to choose whether to remain in the new tier.
While the schools are not under Division I, they can also provide unlimited educational benefits. High-tier schools have to allocate at least $30,000 each year for at least half of their players and, if possible, per athlete. The money will be put into the “enhanced educational trust fund” for the athletes’ future benefits. The president of the NCAA made this proposal to more than 350 colleges and universities around the nation.
Why does the proposal need to be considered?
The proposal will prove very beneficial for the candidates. Many students with a needy background and financial crises will get financial help. From the amount, their lives will become more accessible, and they can overcome the challenging situation.
Another primary reason is that they lose their energy as they work hard in the field and contribute a certain amount of time to play. Therefore, their energy to earn and do other things is lost, which can impact their future.
Due to a lack of energy, their educational life is also affected, and if they are unable to reach the expected heights in football, they will deal with a crisis in life. Hence, paying college football players should be a great move for the candidates as it secures their future.
