The preparations for the upcoming Wimbledon Championship are currently ongoing in a full-fledged manner, and all eyes would be on Novak Djokovic who is the default favourite in the Wimbledon.
Novak has had an average 2022 season. He missed out on the Australian Open due to the vaccine issue and he got dethroned by Daniil Medvedev from his World No 1 position.
Novak Djokovic has failed to win a single grand title this year, as both the Australian and French Open titles have gone to his Spanish rival, Rafael Nadal.
Even after taking all of these into consideration, one can never strike off Novak Djokovic in a tournament, especially if he is the defending champion.
Novak Djokovic won the 2021 Wimbledon Championship and joined Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer on an elite list. He is currently the only player in the history of the Open Era to have won all four Grand Slam titles two times or more than that.
Wimbledon records held by Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic has a better head-to-head record against both of his rivals, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
The best part about Djokovic’s record is that he has had success against Federer and Nadal both on the grass and the clay surface which are considered to be the strongest surfaces of these two players. Novak Djokovic currently holds 6 Wimbledon Championship titles.
Roger Federer has 8 and Pepe Sampras has a total of 7. Djokovic is only the fourth player after Federer, Sampras and Bjorn Borg to win a hat-trick of Wimbledon titles.
Djokovic surely has the chance to be the greatest Wimbledon player of all time since Roger Federer most probably won’t be winning another title on the grass court and Rafael Nadal is not very strong there either.
Novak surely faces competition against a lot of young players such as Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, current world number 1 Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz.
And one can never count Rafael Nadal off from winning titles when people least expect him to. Djokovic has to fight an uphill battle to clinch his 7th Wimbledon title.
