Billy Joe Saunders appears to have suffered from a fractured orbital bone against Canelo Alvarez last weekend inside AT&T Stadium in a terrific back and forth fight between the two champions.
Alvarez triumphed over Billy Joe Saunders in the eighth round after a brutal right uppercut straight to the eye left BJS hugely compromised. It even looked as if Canelo would finish the bout in the eighth round, however, BJS kept his nerve and finished the round. Be that as it may, after careful examination in the corner and BJS insisting that he cannot see from his right eye, the bout was called off with a corner stoppage win for the Mexican legend Canelo Alvarez.

Earlier, Tyson Fury had broken his silence on BJS’s loss against Canelo Alvarez, calling it a great week in Texas with the former super-middleweight champion. Now, promoter Eddie Hearn has given an update on what went down after Billy Joe Saunders was transported to the hospital with an announcement during the broadcast that said he had broken his eye socket.
What are the injuries that Billy Joe Saunders suffered against Canelo Alvarez?
According to Eddie Hearn, BJS stayed in the hospital overnight and suffered multiple fractures to the orbital area. He will undergo surgery this afternoon. Many boxing fans criticized Billy Joe Saunders for quitting, however, looking at the extent of the injuries, it only seems fair that BJS decided to not continue owing to the possible damage that he might have incurred had he continues.
Additionally, fighting someone with power like Canelo is certainly a huge risk with a broken orbital. Canelo had promised a finish in the eighth or ninth round ahead of the bout. It should be noted that Alvarez doesn’t necessarily predict the outcome of his bout, however, considering the anticipation around the bout, Alvarez hit back at BJS’s trash talk with his prediction for the bout and did just that on the night of the fight with an eight-round stoppage win.
