Irrespective of his performances in the upcoming US Open, Rafael Nadal will end the 2022 season on a high since he not only won the French Open where he is usually considered to be the strongest, but also won the Australian Open in which he was considered a significant underdog which turned to be a dark horse and surprised the tennis fraternity and his opponent for the Australian Open finals, Daniil Medvedev.
Nadal has always been prone to injuries and has missed out on many grand slam titles due to his injury woes. He recently had to withdraw from the semifinals of Wimbledon against Nick Kyrgios due to an abdominal tear.
In a recent interview, Nadal mentioned how he copes with the pressure of tennis and how he deals with nerves before the match.
He further mentioned his solution to getting rid of the nerves is to clean his shoes, he further stated,
“My mother and sister, chuckle when they remember this. Because they say that when it comes to sport, I am a disciplined and orderly person.”
“But in everything else, I am distracted and chaotic. They are right. My room at home is always a mess. My hotel room when I am travelling too and I often forget things,”
Nadal’s mother Ana Maria Parera and his sister María Isabel Nadal have been an integral part of his success in his life and they continue to contribute to his success in any way they can.
Rafael Nadal would be getting back to the hard court season after taking a much-needed break after his injury woes during Wimbledon.
Has Rafael Nadal recovered from his injury?
There has been no official confirmation or update from Rafael Nadal about his abdominal injury, however, it can be assumed that his recovery process is on track taking into consideration that the US Open is supposed to take place at the end of the month.
He was also spotted training at his academy last week for the first time after his forced withdrawal from Wimbledon. The US Open would be the last grand slam tournament of 2022 and Nadal would be looking forward to grabbing a hattrick of titles this year after winning the Australian and the French Open earlier in the year.
Nadal would be looking forward to achieving match-ready fitness and hence is expected to participate in four ATP tournaments in the buildup to the US Open.
