UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman takes on Jorge Masvidal in a rematch at UFC 261. The Nigerian Nightmare has beaten most of the top contenders in the welterweight division. And he is going to fight some of the top contenders such as Jorge Masvidal, Colby Covington, and Leon Edwards in the near future in rematches after beating them in the first fight.
He has been a dominant champion in the welterweight division. And sooner or later he will run out of exciting fights if he keeps on winning. Unfortunately. he does not have too many super fights on the table.
Kamaru Usman is not going to move up to middleweight as it is ruled by his Nigerian brother Israel Adesanya. And it does not seem that anyone from the lightweight division will be intrigued to fight Kamaru Usman. Though there were some talks of Conor McGregor fighting for the welterweight title that fight never came to fruition.
In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Kamaru Usman talks about why the fight with Conor did not materialize. Usman stated:
“Conor knows he doesn’t want those problems. I have offered him a title fight. I’ve had an interview with you when I told you I am giving Conor the shot. Conor you have the shot if you want it.At the end of the day. He won’t even say my name as well. He was silent. I tweeted and I told him you want the title shot meet me here this day. And he was silent. And next week what he did was ‘Anderson Silva’ I accept. These guys recognize what’s happening.”
Kamaru Usman talks about a potential fight with Conor McGregor
Kamaru Usman believes a fight with Conor McGregor would be a one-sided beatdown. Usman predicted:
“It’s so bad that’s not even something I entertain my mind anymore. That’s just how savage of a beating it would be. It’s not even something I entertain in my mind anymore.l It is almost a waste of brainpower with what I would do to him.”
The welterweight champion is appreciative of Conor’s achievements in the sport. Usman believes Conor has paved the paths for the fighters of the next generation. But, he also believes that Conor McGregor does not want to fight inside the octagon. Usman said:
“I am proud of Conor for everything he has done. he has really set the bar high. I give respect where respect is due. I credit him for that. But we are speaking as a mixed martial artist, if you want to challenge me then that’s not even a challenge, which is why he stays silent.”
