Why did Gerard Pique retire from Barcelona?
After playing for 87 minutes and being subbed off with the crowd applauding, Gerard Pique made a tearful speech as Barcelona secured a victory over Almeria. An emotional and sobbing Pique said he’ll be supporting the club as a fan by watching the games and passing his love for Barcelona to his sons like his family did.

Pique has had to focus on his off field duties more as he tries to solve the custody situation of his sons and looks into his investment ventures. Pique was organizing the Davis Cup while his team was playing which didn’t sit right with the fans either.
Lastly the club had also hinted at terminating Pique’s contract to free up space on their wage books, after the abysmal performance against Inter, Pique informed Joan Laporta about his desire to leave early and help the club amidst its financial crisis.
Even though he’s retired, Pique has said he’ll come back to Barcelona one day as “I was born here and I will die here” said the Catalan and thanked all the fans and shared some time on the pitch with his sons before he waled off one last time.
