Cristiano Ronaldo is often applauded for his sheer passion for the game. His willingness to give it all for his team stands out. Over the years the forward has won many prestigious titles for the clubs that he has represented. CR7 currently represents the Saudi side Al-Nassr.
However, there have been some moments in the past where the iconic player has lost his cool on the field of play and has received suspensions or bans for his on-field behavior. Here we take a look at a couple of incidents where things turned ugly for CR7.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s five-match ban for ill behavior with referee
Cristiano Ronaldo received a yellow card for celebrating his goal against Barcelona in an El-Clasico playing for Real Madrid. Unfortunately, that was his second yellow of the match, and that resulted in him getting a red card from the referee in charge. The red card offense would have meant a one-match ban for CR7.

However, Ronaldo was guilty of shoving the referee during the same match against the Los Blancos. That further added to his on-field offense in that encounter. For his ill-mannered gesture towards the match official, the Portuguese international further got an additional four-match suspension. Taking his tally to a five-game-ban.

In April 2022, during his second stint with Premier League giants Manchester United, CR7 became the center of attention due to an ugly on-field engagement with a fan. The incident took place at United’s home ground Old Trafford.

Suspension for response to ‘Messi’ chants
In a recent Saudi Pro League clash against Al-Shabab, CR7 was guilty of an offensive gesture towards the crowd. It happened during the closing stages of the match. As the referee blew the final whistle after Ronaldo’s team Al-Nassr emerged victorious on the night, the number seven was spotted giving it back to Al-Shabab supporters.

Reports suggested that the opposition fans were taking the name of Lionel Messi during the entire spell of the match when CR7 was on the field for Al-Nassr. Irritated by the ‘Messi’ chants, Cristiano Ronaldo responded back by gesturing toward the crowd with his hands down near his pelvic area.
The Saudi Pro League disciplinary committee examined the obscure nature of the forward’s on-field gesture. The committee has decided to hand CR7 a one-game ban for the offensive signals towards the supporters in the stand. In addition to the suspension, he will also be paying a sum of 10,000 Riyals ($2,666) as the fine amount.
