Manchester United’s winger Antony has had a below-par year and Premier League season 2023-2024 at the club so far. The Brazilian was earlier involved in a controversial saga regarding his personal life. Due to this, he missed some of the matches for the Red Devils.
However, even when Antony returned to play for Manchester United in the Premier League, the winger failed to register any sort of impactful performances for the club. Combining all of the matches that he had played for the Old Trafford side so far since the beginning of 2023, he only has one goal for the club in 33 outings.

There is no doubt that the 23-year-old will need to improve if he wishes to continue playing for United. But there’s still a good chunk of the 2023-2024 season left. The Brazil international can turn his poor form around if he steps up now and still ends the season with a respectable number of goal contributions.
However, there have been players in the history of English top-flight soccer who have performed even worse than Antony. They weren’t able to salvage any sort of pride, even being a part of a club for a full season. Here we look at some of these players.
Richarlison’s abysmal 2022-2023 Premier League season with Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur signed Richarlison from Everton with high hopes that the Brazilian will help them score more goals in the Premier League. However, Richarlison’s first season with the Spurs turned out to be a nightmare for him. The forward could only net one goal in the entire 2022-2023 season for the club.
With comparisons made to Spurs’ veteran striker Harry Kane and perhaps an expectation to fill Kane’s shoes in the future, the former Evertonian crumbled under pressure. Also, he didn’t enjoy a cohesive bond with then-Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte.
Kalvin Phillips failed to trouble the scoreboard with his forgettable start at Manchester City
Premier League giant Manchester City signed Kalvin Phillips in a much-talked-about transfer from Leeds United. The fans of the club expected that this had the potential to be a marquee signing for the club. However, the England-born player struggled to break into the City’s playing 11 for a large part of his first season at the club.
Manchester City won the league, but the midfielder ended the season with no goals and no assists to his name. Things also haven’t improved for Kalvin Phillips in the 2023-2024 season at City. As per the reports, the player isn’t in the plans of the club’s manager, Pep Guardiola.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s nightmare stint at Chelsea
Chelsea took a gamble when they signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona. The forward player had some of the worst performances of his career for Arsenal when he left the Premier League to play in La Liga. The player’s stint at the Blues turned out to be a really sour one.
In all of the 2022-2023 season with Chelsea, Aubameyang managed to register just one goal for the club. The player looked like a shadow of himself, deprived of confidence. However, it can be mentioned that he did show some glimpses of his talent but wasn’t given that consistent run by the club’s hierarchy.
However, fans around the world would know that these sorts of phases come in every player’s career. It just depends on the character of the player and whether he strides to come out of these phases and manages to perform again at the highest level.
