After Lionel Messi spoke about his appreciation for his Bangladeshi fans, a video of Cristiano Ronaldo greeting Bangladesh has gone viral. It has been posted on Twitter by ‘The CR7 Timeline.’ However, the original source seems to be Amitab Deb Nath from Sylhet.

Amitab showed the Portuguese legend greeting Bangladesh has gone viral in a Facebook video posted on February 7, 2023. The Al-Nassr forward is heard saying, “Salam Alaikum [peace be upon you] Bangladesh! Bye-bye.” This was much to the delight of the netizens of a country that is known for its craze of soccer.

Bangladesh was in the news during the FIFA World Cup 2022 because of its fan frenzy. Even Lionel Messi himself got to know about it. In an interview with Dario Ole, Messi said this about his Bangladeshi fans:

“Yes, I saw it all—the t-shirts everywhere, before the final. Seeing the “10” Argentina t-shirts from people around the world, of Messi, is a very beautiful thing,” he said.

During the World Cup, Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni said: “I think, because of Diego (Maradona) first, then Messi, the fans of Argentine football have increased. I am proud to know that we have such support in Bangladesh. Not only in Bangladesh, but people from many other countries also support us.”

Argentina and Bangladesh are situated miles apart. Their countrymen speak different languages. They play different sports, but when it came to the soccer World Cup, the Bangladeshis root for La Albiceleste.

Bangladesh has never qualified for the tournament. However, social media was bristling with images from the streets of the country during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. People had painted the entire alleys and more in support of La Albiceleste. Bangladesh showed immense support for Messi and Argentina.

Lionel Messi and Argentina might play in Bangladesh in June

To return the favor of immense support from the Bangladeshis, it is being reported that Argentina might travel to the South East Asian country in June 2023. Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Kazi Salahuddin addressed the media on January 17, and said, “Argentina said they would like to visit Bangladesh during the FIFA window in June 2023 and regarding the tournament venue, the match will be held at Bangabandhu Stadium in the capital (Dhaka).”

The president further added, “Argentina will provide us with a list of countries after talking with their coach and we will pick one. The visit by the Argentina soccer team is almost finalized. A talk on terms and conditions is in progress.”

The last time Messi and Argentina visited the Indian subcontinent was in 2011. Argentina beat Venezuela 1-0 at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) in Kolkata, India.
