SUMMARY
- Manchester United beat Liverpool 4-3 in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
- Amad Diallo scored the late game-winner after a phenomenal counter attack.
Manchester United and Liverpool faced off at Old Trafford in the FA Cup quarter-finals and it would be safe to claim that it would go down in history books. The game surely kept every fan on the edge of their seat from the start until the final whistle. Amad Diallo’s last-minute goal won it all for The Red Devils, who won the game 4-3. Erik ten Hag’s men will play against Coventry City at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-finals.
Although ten Hag may be ecstatic over Diallo’s winner, there is also some bad news to it. The youngster will miss the next game in the competition, after being sent off for taking off his shirt during his celebration. That will be a huge blow for the team, considering how big of a boost Diallo was for the team since coming on in the 85th minute.

Manchester United have been quite underwhelming this season, and the FA Cup is the only competition they are in right now. It is the only cup tournament where they have a chance of touching some silverware. The last time United won a trophy was in 2023 when they won the Carabao Cup.
Manchester Utd captain Bruno Fernandes sends a message after beating Liverpool
After the win, United captain Bruno Fernandes sent a clear warning to his FA Cup rivals. He said, “At this club, you have to always be at high standards — that’s why you play for Man United, you want that pressure. This season has not been at the level we want, but we want to improve. We want to win the FA Cup.”

As the Portuguese superstar mentions, United are nowhere near where their fans expect them to be. They have won the league 20 times until now, but they are not even close to the title race this season and haven’t been since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
Moreover, as Fernandes claims, the ongoing season hasn’t gone their way, after getting knocked out of the UCL after losing to Bayern Munich. They finished 4th in their group after managing to win only one game out of a possible six.
Erik ten Hag and Co. haunt Liverpool for a record-breaking 11th time
Neither team were on the front foot but Manchester United always looked like they were close to scoring. Scott McTominay was in the right place at the right on yet another occasion in the 10th minute. Alejandro Garnacho’s shot was saved by Caoimhín Kelleher, but it fell to the Scottish midfielder who found the open goal.
Alexis Mac Allister got Liverpool back into the game in the 44th minute, after beating Andre Onana at the near post. That was when The Reds managed to gain some momentum for their second goal, who scored just before halftime. He blasted one at the net after Onana saved Darwin Nunez’s shot and continues his frequent habit of scoring against United.
When it seemed like Liverpool were going to walk away with a 2-1 win, Antony picked the perfect time to finally score a goal after more than three hundred days. He got the ball in the box in the 87th minute and managed to get a shot off with his weak foot despite the pressure from Liverpool defenders.
Harvey Elliot then managed to get Liverpool ahead once again with a deflected goal in the 105th minute. But Marcus Rashford rose from the ashes finally, after missing two easy chances. He had an opportunity at the end of regular time but the England forward just shot the ball wide. But he redeemed himself in the 112nd minute, with a first-time finish from McTominay’s pass.
Amad Diallo won it all for United in the end, as the 12x FA Cup winners made a counter attack after winning the ball from their opponents. Diallo was the one helped win the ball, after which Garnacho picked up the loose ball. That was when the two youngsters stormed into Liverpool’s box, before Diallo found the back of the net with a simple finish past Kelleher.

That marked the record-breaking 11th time that United have knocked out Liverpool in the FA Cup, which is a huge number considering their rivalry. Jurgen Klopp’s men are still in the PL title race and in the UCL as well, and only time will tell if they bounce back from this loss vs United.
