SUMMARY
- Luka Modric's contract with Real Madrid will end in June 2024.
- Luka Modric turned down the opportunity to become a member of Carlo Ancelotti's coaching team.
If Luka Modric decides to retire this summer, he has reportedly been offered the opportunity to become a member of Carlo Ancelotti’s coaching staff. Over the last eighteen months, Ancelotti has gradually diminished Modric’s position; at this point in the season, the 38-year-old has only made 11 starts in La Liga, and it is widely predicted that he will leave the Santiago Bernabeu once his contract ends in the summer.
Although Luka Modric has publicly expressed his wish to play more this season and has never referred to hanging up his boots, it is clear that he has the choice to retire. However, Modric has not shown any desire to retire as of yet and instead is in top form whenever he has been called upon.

Luka is one of the best midfielders of this generation, and the recent treatment he has received from Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has left him disappointed. It now remains to be seen what Luka will do at the end of the 2023-24 season, whether he chooses to retire or leave and join another club.
Luka Modric rejects Carlo Ancelotti’s coaching role offer at Real Madrid
Legendary Real Madrid player Luka Modric is expected to depart the Santiago Bernabeu during the summer after turning down the opportunity to become a member of Carlo Ancelotti’s coaching team. Sportske Novosti, a Croatian publication, claims (via Madrid Universal) that Ancelotti extended an invitation to Modric to become a member of his backroom team at Madrid.
The seasoned Croatian midfielder first turned down the offer because he wanted to play for one more season. When his contract ends at the end of the current campaign, the 38-year-old will undoubtedly depart Real Madrid.

He’s gotten frustrated with the situation and still wants to play regularly. When Modric signed a one-year deal in 2023, he believed he was guaranteed consistent first-team playing time. However, under Ancelotti, the Croatian international has been given a more subdued role this year.
This season, the former playmaker for Tottenham Hotspur has started 11 of the 20 La Liga games, tallying four assists and one goal. Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, and Toni Kroos are among the players that Ancelotti has frequently favored.
