Tottenham’s head coach, Antonio Conte, will undergo gallbladder removal surgery on Wednesday due to “severe abdominal pain” he experienced this morning. Conte may be absent for several weeks after the procedure and his assistant, Cristian Stellini, is expected to be in charge of the Premier League match against Manchester City on Sunday.
“Antonio recently became unwell with severe abdominal pain, following a diagnosis of cholecystitis, he will be undergoing surgery to remove his gallbladder today (Wednesday) and will return following a period of recuperation. Everyone at the club wishes him well.” a Spurs statement said.

Cholecystitis is an inflammation of the gallbladder, and it usually takes about a month for full recovery after undergoing surgery for its removal. Despite this, Conte will likely strive to return as soon as possible. However, there is a possibility that he may miss the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 matches against Milan on February 14th.
Before the match against Milan, Tottenham must also play Leicester away and then have league derbies at home against West Ham and Chelsea. Tottenham will likely provide information on Conte’s status after his surgery and confirm if Stellini will be overseeing the team during Conte’s recovery.
Tottenham’s squad received a boost with the addition of Spanish right-back Pedro Porro, who arrived from Sporting Lisbon on loan with an obligation to purchase for in the summer. Porro is expected to make his first appearance in the match against the reigning Premier League champions, Manchester City, on Sunday.
How many trophies has Antonio Conte won?
In his soccer career, Antonio Conte was a tenacious midfielder for Lecce and Juventus. He has since become a successful manager in both Italy and England, bringing his fighting spirit to his coaching style.
Antonio Conte’s first coaching job was with Arezzo, and he later took over for Maurizio Sarri for a second time at the same team. Although the team was relegated, he found success in his next role by leading Bari to win the Serie B championship in the 2008-09 season. This accomplishment opened up further opportunities for him to coach at Atalanta and Siena.

For a while, people had been discussing the possibility of Conte returning to Juventus, where he was a fan favorite during his playing days. In 2011, he finally got his chance when he was appointed as the successor to Luigi Delneri. During his three seasons with Juventus, Conte led the team to win three Serie A titles and two Supercoppa Italiana championships. In total, he won 102 games out of the 151 games he coached there.
While leading the Italian national team, Conte’s best achievement was reaching the quarter-finals at the 2016 European Championships. However, he achieved more success in domestic leagues when he took over at Chelsea, where he won a Premier League title and an FA Cup in two seasons.
After returning to Italy to coach Inter, he added another Serie A title to his record and took the team to the final of the Europa League. In November 2021, Conte returned to England to become the manager of Tottenham.
