SUMMARY
- FC Barcelona is reportedly at risk of getting banned from the UEFA Champions League.
- The club's balance sheets were in a mess, as revealed by the reports.
FC Barcelona and Real Madrid recently had a huge win over UEFA after the recent ruling on the European Super League. The two Spanish giants and UEFA have been at loggerheads since the idea of the Super League came about. Finally, after two years, the European Court of Justice has ruled against UEFA. However, it appears as if FC Barcelona has come out on the wrong side of UEFA after the ruling.
According to recent reports, FC Barcelona is at risk of getting banned from the UEFA Champions League. The reports suggest that the reason behind it is because of a violation of the league’s financial regulations. As per the reports, UEFA requires that the clubs only include earnings from soccer activity in the financial results.

FC Barcelona, however, has allegedly included their earnings linked to their TV and marketing rights in the financial reports. The club’s balance sheets were in a mess, as revealed by the reports. The Catalan club initially received a €500,000 ($552,000 approx.) fine from UEFA earlier this year for incorrectly declaring their profits. However, now the club is facing a potential ban from the Champions League for two to three years.
The soccer fans, however, believe that there’s something more than meets the eye in this case. The fans claim that UEFA is deliberately punishing FC Barcelona for its continued involvement in the Super League project. One fan even wrote, “Lol Corrupt UEFA trying to act naive LMAO.” The reigning La Liga champions are yet to respond to the recent allegations and reports.
FC Barcelona president clears his stance on the European Super League
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has remained firm in his stance of supporting the European Super League. Soon after the ruling came out, the club’s social media handles released a video in which Laporta reiterated that the club is committed to bringing the Super League to life. He said, “FC Barcelona would like to express its satisfaction with the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union”.

Joan Laporta further went on to state that the Super League is the need of the hour for the sustainability of member-owned clubs like Barcelona. He also claimed that the Super League is important to stand against UEFA and FIFA exercising their monopoly in the soccer world. Lastly, Laporta stated that the Super League isn’t against any national leagues and will provide a solution to the overloaded fixtures and promote financial fair play.
