The soccer world was left with a huge upset recently after World Champion and one of the greatest player to have ever played the game, Lionel Messi, was knocked out of the UEFA Champions League after his team Paris Saint Germain were knocked out by German champions, Bayern Munich, in the Round of 16 tie.
The fans have been thrown into a great heap of emotions as many believed that this tie could have been the last time Lionel Messi played in the Champions League as there is an air of uncertainty around the 35-year-old’s contract with some rumors of him moving out of Europe next season.
The fan wrote: “A sad thought came to me today. Tonight could be the last time we ever see Lionel Messi in the champions league. End of an era….”

Another fan believed that it is a shame for Messi not to win a Champions League title in almost a decade after last winning it with Barcelona in 2015. The fan believed that Messi was undone by underwhelming teams at Barca and PSG and should have won more UCL trophies.
They wrote: “What’s even sadder is that he hasn’t won a cl trophy in 9 years, the final periods of his career ruined by a shitty barca and PSG 😢 could have won at least two in the period otherwise”
A fan looked optimistic about Messi still playing in the Champions League as they suggested that he could still go to FC Barcelona as there were rumors about the transfer taking place and if Messi made a sensational return to Camp Nou, fans will be delighted to see their star back in the UCL.
The fan wrote: “Why? He can still go to Barcelona or renew his contract. Only rumors about his next club. Nothing set in stone yet.”

It will be interesting for the fans to see which club Messi plays at next season. If he chooses to stay at PSG or move to FC Barcelona, he could still play in the UCL but if Messi decides to move out of Europe, this will have been his last game in the UCL and a glorious Champions League career has come to an end.
PSG knocked out of the UCL by Bayern Munich
French Champions, PSG, were knocked out by Bayern Munich in the second leg of the RO16 tie at the Allianz Arena after the Bavarians won the match 2-0. Bayern had come into the 2nd leg with a 1-nil lead from the away game beating PSG a few weeks back in Parc Des Princes.
PSG started the game on the front foot with a couple of good chances falling to star men, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, but they failed to convert them before the biggest chance of the first half fell to PSG midfielder Vitinha which was denied by a spectacular goal-line clearance by Matthijs De Ligt.

Bayern weathered the early storm and came back strong in the second half scoring in the 51st minute but was denied by the VAR before Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored the game’s first goal in the 61st minute. Serge Gnabry put the tie to bed in the ending moments of the match scoring after a beautiful counterattack.
With this loss, PSG face another setback in their UCL project which has been in place ever since the Qatar ownership took the charge of the club. The French Champions were without their star man Neymar Jr. while Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi not looking in touch didn’t go well for the French club either,
