After conquering soccer, Cristiano Ronaldo now wants to develop another sport in Portugal. While it’s hard to imagine Ronaldo playing any other sport than soccer, the Portuguese skipper also enjoys playing Padel. He was spotted playing the game during a promotional event a few months ago in Singapore. Most recently, he’s decided to invest 1% of his net worth in the development of Padel.
As per reports, Cristiano Ronaldo invested around $5.3 million to help Padel grow in Portugal. Padel, which is a sport that consists of elements from both tennis and squash, has seen a rising increase in its popularity. Being a fan of the sport himself, the Al-Nassr star wants his country to become a powerhouse in Padel. The Portuguese Padel federation head profusely thanked Ronaldo for his generous contribution.

The FFP head said, “The City of Padel is an old dream, which I always hoped to achieve. And it is an immense pride to be able to do it alongside someone who, for me, is the greatest figure in the history of world sport, Cristiano Ronaldo.” The head further stated that he’s confident that Portugal will become a name to be reckoned with in the world of Padel.
Padel, which started developing Portugal in the late 90s, has currently around 100,000 regular practitioners across the country. However, the European country is yet to win the Padel World Cup. In the 2018 edition of the Padel World Cup, Portugal had its best-ever finish, with its men’s team reaching 5th place while the women’s team came 3rd. Although the women’s team did become European Champions back in 2015 (via FFP).
