For most of the twenty-first century, Messi and Ronaldo have been fierce competitors in soccer, with both players elevating the game. Conversely, Virat Kohli has made a name for himself as a modern-day cricket legend, he has been performing at the highest levels in his respective sport and has gained vast popularity in the world.

Google posted on X (formerly Twitter) regarding their most searched athletes in the last 25 years, Cristiano Ronaldo topping the list according to the post. Cricket player Virat Kohli was the most searched-after, while football emerged as the most popular sport.
Regarding Ronaldo, the 38-year-old is employed with Al Nassr, a Saudi Pro League team. Before making his debut in January 2023, he joined them in December 2022. Together with his goals for Portugal, Ronaldo leads the world scoring rankings for the most goals scored in 2023. Also, he has 34 goals and 12 assists in 41 appearances for the Saudi club.

This record saw him eclipse the likes of soccer legend and FIFA World Cup winner Lionel Messi and legendary Indian cricketer Virat Kohli. Lionel Messi is one of the greatest players in soccer alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, his most recent achievement was winning the FIFA World Cup in 2022 in Qatar. He also just like Ronaldo has won many awards and trophies in his career but fell quite short in Google’s most search athlete record below Ronaldo.
Regarding Virat Kohli, the former captain of India, he has amassed eighty international hundreds. He has the most tons among active players, however, he is behind Sachin Tendulkar (100) in the record. In One Day Cricket, Kohli also holds the record for most hundreds (50). However, he too fell short and behind Cristiano for the illustrious record by Google.
