Lionel Messi’s Paris Saint Germain were recently knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by an in-form Bayern Munich who beat the French side with 2 goals to nil in the second leg of the R16 tie while they had earlier won 1-nil in Parc des Princes.
Rubbing salt into the wounds of Lionel Messi, who might have probably played his last game in the UEFA Champions League, was Bayern frontman Thomas Muller who said that Lionel Messi has never been a challenge for him and his team and they have always got the better of him.
Talking to journalist, Georg Holzner, he said: “When it comes to results, we always do well against Lionel Messi – at all levels.”

Muller further stated that it was Messi’s biggest rival, Cristiano Ronaldo who caused problems for the German side numerous times in the Champions League while he also talked about having respect for Messi’s recent World Cup win.
He said: “At club level, it was always Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid who was a problem for us.”
Lionel Messi has had a tough time against Bayern Munich suffering some huge defeats over the years. He was a part of the Barcelona team who were handed an 8-2 defeat by Bayern in 2020 while he also suffered a 7-0 aggregate loss to the Bavarians back in 2013.
Thomas Muller prefers Cristiano Ronaldo as his teammate over Lionel Messi
Thomas Muller has previously had his say in the Ronaldo-Messi debate as he was asked who he would prefer to have as a teammate. The German answered that even though he would have liked to have Messi as a teammate earlier in his career but now it would surely be Cristiano.
He said: “At the start of my career I’d have liked to play with Messi because at that time I was going into the area more and scoring more. Now I get more assists and I’d need Cristiano more.”

Ronaldo has enjoyed a great time against Muller’s Bayern Munich during his Real Madrid days as the Portuguese has scored 9 goals and 1 assist against Bayern while Real Madrid has knocked them out of the UCL 3 times since 2014.
Muller had also talked about how even though he had massive respect for both of them, he didn’t need them as he had ‘Robert LewanGOALski’ who enjoyed a terrific spell in front of goal while playing for Munich in the past alongside Muller.

He said: “I take my hat off to both of them for everything they have done….but I have Robert ‘Lewangoalski’”
It seems like Muller has had his say in the never-ending Cristiano Ronaldo-Lionel Messi debate taking a dig at the Argentine after knocking him out of the UCL.
