Spanish Giants Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are now reportedly at risk of losing their Champions League spots due to the recent Luis Rubiales scandal. Both clubs have a very illustrious past in the tournament, but that might be in jeopardy this season.
According to reports, the Spanish FA has urged UEFA to consider expelling Real Madrid and Barcelona because of the Spanish government’s intervention over the ongoing “Kiss Gate“ controversy. In case this request is granted, it would imply that all Spanish clubs would be excluded from all UEFA competitions like the Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League.
It all happened after the final match and the World Cup triumph of the Spain Women’s team in Australia. As the national team star forward Jenni Hermoso stepped up to the podium to receive a winner’s medal and congratulations from FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Spain’s Queen Leticia, and Rubiales, the RFEF chief kissed her on the cheek before grabbing her head and kissing her on the lips.
