Mason Greenwood showed glimpses of his talent in his first start for La Liga side Getafe. The English forward’s performance was highly debated among the fans of Manchester United on social media.
The English forward has already made two substitute appearances for Getafe in La Liga. He got his first start in the midweek fixture against Athletic Bilbao at San Mames. The highly contested match ended in a 2-2 draw, in which Mason Greenwood provided his first assist for Getafe by helping Gaston Alvarez score the equalizer in the 51st minute.

Spanish newspaper ‘AS’ reported the crowd was hostile at San Mames against Mason Greenwood. Meanwhile, on social media, the reception of the performance was mixed. Certain sections of the fans were happy to see the forward working his way back to his best.
Comments like, “Better off away from United. He will develop better,” “Wait, he crossed the ball? Sancho will sleep on the bench Fr,” “Feminists are choking,” and “He took the corner with his right foot…bring my boy back,” showed enthusiasm from fans for Mason Greenwood.

Whereas, other comments echoed a different response, such as “he’s a criminal,” “We don’t care,” and “Incredibly shameless“. A certain section of the fans continues to plead with the fan accounts of Manchester United to stop posting about their ex-player due to his controversial past.
La Liga to fine Real Sociedad for brutal chants about Mason Greenwood
San Mames was not the first stadium to give a hostile response to the former Manchester United player. In the previous match against Real Sociedad, away at Donostia-San Sebastian, Greenwood suffered a similar fate.
The crowd was heard making chants of ‘Greenwood, die’ from some sections of the stadium. Marca has reported that La Liga is taking the matter very seriously, with a possible fine for Real Sociedad for the behavior of their fans.

Similar chants were heard when Osasuna played Getafe in the league. It feels like these chants will be a regular showing for all the away matches of Getafe. In order to stop these chants, fines need to be substantial. As of right now, the chants don’t seem to bother Mason Greenwood, as some fans believe that he still can’t understand Spanish properly, which is the language used by the fans for these chants.
Mason Greenwood and Getafe will now shift their focus to hosting Villarreal over the weekend in the League. They are currently 10th in the La Liga table after seven matches. They have only two victories from these seven games, and it would require Mason Greenwood to be back in form to get back to winning ways.
