Harry Maguire has often been part of certain criticism by the Manchester United fans in recent times. The defender was likely to leave the club in the summer transfer window with United’s Premier League rivals West Ham United. However, due to certain circumstances, the deal didn’t go through the door.
The 30-year-old Harry Maguire hasn’t been a regular name in the Manchester United starting eleven this season. The England international has started just two out of the Red Devils’s first nine matches of the Premier League season 2023-2024.
The defender got an opportunity to start against FC Copenhagen in the United’s Champions League clash. The 30-year-old grabbed his chance with both hands. He scored a 72nd-minute winner for Manchester United. This goal was his first for the club since scoring against Leeds United in the Premier League 2021/2022 season 611 days before.
The defender posted the winning moment on one of his socials and captioned it as – “A Knight to remember”. Different stars of the game showed their support for the Red Devil’s player by commenting on it. Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham reacted by writing up – “Love to see it H (Harry)“. Arsenal and England midfielder Declan Rice wrote – “Buzzing for you H”.

German international and Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger also chipped in and stated – “Big Man”. Former Arsenal player and legendary soccer personality Ian Wright commented – “Brilliant“. Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho reacted by writing – “Harryy”.
One of the most notable comments was by Maguire’s wife Fern Maguire. Fern showed her support for her husband by declaring him – “The best”. This has been a difficult couple of months for Harry Maguire. With the defender getting an important goal for United in a crucial fixture, things hopefully start to go in the right direction for him from now on.
What Harry Maguire said after the Champions League win over FC Copenhagen
The 30-year-old United defender not only scored an important winner for the Red Devils but also helped the club register their first win of this season’s Champions League campaign. With the win, United helped themselves to the third spot in their Group A table of the competition. While leaving Copenhagen in the last spot without a win.
In the post-match interview, the player had something to say about the importance of the win. The center-back first expressed his disappointment at the lack of clinical finishing from his team in front of the goal.
He said – “we’ve got to be a little bit more clinical”. The veteran further stated that his team didn’t give any chance to the opponents in the second half of the game.
He inflicted that their first-half performance was poor. However, the defender expressed that – “We (Manchester United) come out the second half a lot better”. The 30-year-old was of the opinion that although the performance of his team was not perfectly up to the mark, it was “an important win” for them.
Harry also lauded his goalkeeper Andre Onana for saving the penalty in the dying stages of the match. The player’s experience of playing on the big stages before with Manchester United would certainly help the team in these types of matches. Fans would hope that he continues to step up for his team, by delivering more performances like this.
