Premier League club West Ham United has agreed a deal with Manchester United to sign Harry Maguire on a permanent deal this summer. Maguire had a very uncertain time at the club ever since they appointed Erik Ten Hag as the new manager. The English defender recently lost his captaincy of the club before the start of the new season.
According to reports, West Ham and Manchester United have agreed on a deal in the principle of $38.2 Million for the defender. If this deal sticks, Maguire is set to earn $1,27,330 each week. This deal is yet to be confirmed as it can only go forward after the player’s confirmation.
Maguire previously opened up about his plans of staying at Manchester United and contributing for the team’s success. But with UEFA Euro Cup 2024 approaching, his spot on the national team might be in trouble if he would still choose to be at United and be a third choice after his fellow teammates Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
Last season, Maguire made 31 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions. He scored no goals and had no assists but saw 9 yellow cards. The player managed to mark 1593 minutes on the field.
Manchester United takes a $62.8 million hit after agreeing a deal with West Ham
Manchester United are on their way to take a $62.8 million hit. It’s because they agreed a deal in principle with West Ham United to sell Harry Maguire for $38.2 million. West Ham were interested to sign the player for a few months now and a deal seems to be pretty imminent.
Maguire joined Man United from Leicester City for a massive $101 Million deal in 2019. In the first season, the player was playing fair enough but with time gradually the English defender dropped his form and never recovered from it. Until now, in a Manchester United shirt, he has played 175 matches in which he scored 7 goals and had 5 assists. He was also the captain of the club for the last few seasons.
With the incoming of players like Martinez and Varane, and due to his lack of form, Maguire lost the trust of the manager for a first-team spot. Manchester United now are looking to clear their books after a very expensive transfer market. So far they bought Mason Mount, Rasmus Hojlund, and Andre Onana. The team is looking to sell a few of their less important stars.
If the deal gets through, Manchester United could let go of Maguire, but it would cost them a lot of money. The deal is still at the halfway stage as both parties are waiting for the player’s side to confirm his decision.
