Lionel Messi is reportedly keen on making a return to his former club FC Barcelona. Messi left the La Liga giants in the summer of 2021 and joined Paris Saint-Germain. However, if we believe the media, he has never really settled down in Paris. Reports of him wanting to return to Barcelona have been published continuously. One latest report by ‘Managing Barca’ states Messi’s desire to return.
They have captioned their tweet as, “Exclusive. Lionel Messi wants to return to FC Barcelona. @JoanFontes.” Joan Fontes, a Catalan journalist has been quoted as the source. Soccer fans, however, engaged in a debate after this report was published about Messi’s time at PSG. One fan commented, “HE FLOPPED AT PSG”
HE FLOPPED AT PSG😭😭😭

Some fans were happy about the news and could not wait for Messi to be back. However, surprisingly, a few fans did not want him to return to Barca stating that they do not need him.
I speak for every Barca fan when I say we don’t want him cause he’s finished

Messi and PSG crashed out of the UEFA Champions League in the Round of 16 for the second time in a row. They were defeated by Bayern Munich 3-0 on aggregate.
Lionel Messi’s contract with PSG is set to expire in the summer of 2023
In August 2021, Messi joined the Parisians on a two-year contract for free as his Barcelona contract had expired. The Argentine’s current deal at PSG has the option of a third year if both parties agree to trigger the clause. Discussions on extending the contract have been underway for a while now. However, no concrete news has been received about Messi’s future.
No consensus over the length or cost of the extended contract has been decided. PSG also has to be aware of the Financial Fair Play rules. Although they found a way around it on more than one occasion.
Despite widespread speculation, it has been confirmed that no real offer has been made to the Argentine yet. No clubs from the Major League Soccer and the Saudi Pro League have made formal offers. Not even former club Barcelona.
Jorge Messi, Leo’s father and agent, confirmed to the media in early February that he has had no contact with Barca president Joan Laporta since his son left the club in 2021. However, Laporta talked about how he met Messi’s father recently.
🗣Joan Laporta (FC Barcelona President ) :
“I met Jorge Messi…We talked about the World Cup and a tribute match for Leo. He’s at PSG right now, so I don’t want to speak about whether or not he could return”
— PSG Chief (@psg_chief) March 7, 2023
Laporta said, “I met Jorge Messi…We talked about the World Cup and a tribute match for Leo. He’s at PSG right now, so I don’t want to speak about whether or not he could return.”
Apparently, Barcelona cannot afford Messi’s salary, however, Laporta has a plan. A tribute match for Messi will be organized. This match could earn over $100 million in revenue and it would all be received by Messi.
