Despite the outcome of a Premier League investigation into Manchester City, Pep Guardiola says City’s trophies and medals can’t be taken away. An independent commission may recommend sanctions, including docking points or expulsion, for 101 breaches of competition rules. The Abu Dhabi United Group took over City in 2008, so they are at risk of losing their six titles.
With his unique tactical approach and emphasis on possession-based play, Pep Guardiola is credited with revolutionizing modern soccer. Guardiola says the charges have “damaged” previous victories under him and his predecessors. In response to a question about his emotional attachment to City’s trophies, Guardiola said: “Those moments belong to us. They absolutely belong to us, regardless of the sentence they belong to us.”
“I don’t know if we are responsible for Steven Gerrard slipping at Anfield. Was that our fault? I have respect for Steven Gerrard – but that moment belongs to us. The moments that we lived these years together, the Premier League will decide … but I know what we won and the way we won it. I know the effort we put in. If something happened in 2009 or 2010 it is not going to change one second.”
Guardiola refers to a slip by Liverpool FC player Steven Gerrard against Chelsea FC in 2014. Liverpool lost the Premier League title that season due to the slip, which led Chelsea to score a crucial goal. Although Guardiola acknowledges that City’s pressure on Liverpool indirectly contributed to Liverpool’s slip, he does so with respect for Gerrard’s status as a soccer legend. However, there is no way to be certain without more context.
Pep Guardiola accuses other Premier League clubs’ of attacking Manchester City
Manchester City soccer Club manager Pep Guardiola has been known for being very vocal and expressive. Soccer managers and players often make accusations about their opponents when it comes to competition and intensity.
Pep Guardiola has accused other Premier League clubs of spreading false information about Manchester City. According to City’s manager, a coordinated effort is underway to harm the club’s reputation. Guardiola said: “There are people in other clubs who don’t like Manchester City, and they are trying to damage the club’s reputation. They’re using anything they can to do this. It’s not fair and it’s wrong. I think the FA should investigate it.”
Guardiola says Manchester City are already condemned in the court of public opinion, naming Tottenham’s Daniel Levy as one of the 19 Premier League clubs in violation. Defiantly defending his club, Guardiola spoke for the first time since the Premier League accused City of financial misconduct.
Even if the club is not found guilty, he said reputational damage had been done. According to the manager, this week’s events have made him more committed than ever to City.
Based on its central finding that Abu Dhabi-owned City disguised its own funding as sponsored by the state’s commercial companies, the case concluded: A $11.3 million fine was imposed for City’s failure to cooperate with the UEFA investigations.
City’s trophies since Sheikh Mansour became owner in 2008 would be tainted by a guilty verdict, Guardiola said “The club talked with all of us but I didn’t speak; we trained like normal to try and beat Aston Villa on Sunday.” The coach was told that if the players and he had no doubts about the future, they would not be human. As a result of the allegations, the 52-year-old said he had no doubts about his future at City.
Guardiola has also shown respect for other clubs and players, such as Steven Gerrard. As well as supporting the club’s fans, he stated that they were the club’s most important asset. Guardiola is committed to helping the club succeed and is not going to judge it. Currently, he is focused on helping the club to improve for the future.
