For Lionel Messi, life at Paris Saint Germain has been full of ups and downs. When Messi made his blockbuster move to the French club in 2021, PSG fans started dreaming about the Champions League once again. However, in his second season at the club, Messi has failed to satisfy PSG’s growing hunger for their first Champions League glory.
Just before the Bayern Munich game, Lionel Messi gave an interview with PSG, where he talked about his life at PSG. The Argentine star confessed the struggles he had faced in his first season, after his sudden move to the club from Barcelona. For Messi, it was certainly a strange and difficult transition. After all, he had spent the majority part of his life in Barcelona.
Messi revealed, “As I said several times, the first year I had a hard time adapting to Paris for different reasons.” However, now, the former Barcelona star feels much more comfortable at PSG. Messi said, “Yes the truth is that I feel great. This season I started it differently, with a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of desire, and more comfortable with the club, the city, and everything that Paris means. And honestly, I have really enjoyed the season as I am feeling now.“
However, PSG’s failure in the Champions League has once again sparked a debate about Lionel Messi’s future at the club. Messi’s contract with PSG ends in the summer of this year, and he is yet to sign a new contract. Amidst constant rumors of a move back to Barcelona, there’s also a chance of a move to the MLS.
Will Lionel Messi leave PSG after the Champions League exit?
Lionel Messi’s contract situation with PSG still remains up in the air. The recent disappointment in the Champions League has created a shadow of doubt on Messi’s future at the French club. Moreover, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s recent meeting with Messi’s father and agent, Jorge Messi, has once again led to rumors of Messi’s homecoming to the Spanish league.
However, as Laporta recently revealed, he has still not talked about Messi’s move back to Barcelona with Jorge. In reality, the reason why he met with Messi’s father was to plan a tribute match for the PSG star. While speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Laporta said, “Yes, we met up with Leo Messi’s father. He knows that we’re very happy to see him win the World Cup. We talked about a tribute to Leo.“

He continued, “I refuse to talk about Messi’s return to Barcelona as a player out of respect for PSG and the player himself. ” Keeping in mind Messi’s recent comments about how he feels at the club, it is unlikely that Messi will return to his former club. Moreover, with Barcelona’s ongoing final crisis, it will be hard for the club to accommodate Messi’s enormous wage bill.
