In a cover story for Billboard, Shakira opened up about her long-term relationship with Gerard Piqué. The Colombian superstar revealed that she believed in the dream of “till death do us part” before the end of her romance with the former soccer superstar.
Shakira told Billboard, “My priority was my home, my family. I believed in “till death do us part.” I believed that dream, and I had that dream for myself, for my children.”
The idea of an everlasting romance came from her parents, who have been together for around 50 years. Her parents’ love was an example for the singer. She had envisioned a similar relationship with Pique, but that dream didn’t come true.

“Well, the thing is, I was dedicated to him. To the family, to him. It was very difficult for me to attend to my professional career while in Barcelona,” Shakira elaborated on her dedication to Pique and her family to the point that she has put her professional career on the backseat.
It was difficult for the singer to focus on her singing career while she was in Barcelona with Pique. Gerard Pique played for FC Barcelona from 2008 to 2023. During this period, he had an 11-year-long relationship with the Colombian singer.
Shakira acknowledges her fans’ desperation for her new album when asked about a release date during recent press conference in her native Colombia:

Shakira explained it was difficult for her to leave her children in Barcelona to go somewhere else to make music for her professional career. She dated Pique from 2011 to 2022 during which the singer only released two studio albums, one in 2014 and one in 2017.
Since the split in June 2022, Shakira has moved to the USA with her two kids and working on her music again, with an upcoming album in the works.
Shakira receives a compliment from Antonela Roccuzzo
Antonela Roccuzzo, the wife of Lionel Messi, has been actively supporting Shakira since her split with Gerard Pique. The love between the two was on display again as Roccuzzo commented on one of Shakira’s Instagram posts.
Shakira recently attended the MTV Video Music Awards 2023, where she wore a dress from luxury brand Versace. She uploaded the photo of the dress with the caption, “Thanks @Versace for this specially custom-made dress in one of my favorite colors.”

In response, Roccuzzo expressed her admiration by commenting “Beautiful” followed by applause emojis. The interaction was caught by eagled-eye fans who showered some love on Roccuzzo herself.
Roccuzzo has also relocated to the USA following her husband’s move from PSG to Inter Miami in the summer. The move has brought Shakira and Roccuzzo closer as both have been caught showering love on each other in social media posts in support.
In the past, it was speculated that Roccuzzo and Shakira had a fractured relationship since Lionel Messi moved away from Barcelona back in 2021. However, their recent online exchanges have put these rumors to rest.
