Manchester United player Harry Maguire recently announced that he will no longer be the captain of the club. The player has been stripped of his captaincy by manager Erik ten Hag.
Harry Maguire took to Twitter to share the news with the United fans. The player wrote, “After discussions with the manager today he has informed me he is changing captain. He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.
“So I wanted to say a massive thank you to the Manchester United fans for all their brilliant support whilst I’ve been wearing the armband. Since the day I took on the role, three and half years ago, it’s been a huge privilege to lead Manchester United and one of the proudest moments of my career to date. It’s one of the greatest honors in club football.”

The player further added, “I’ve done everything I possibly could to help United be successful – on and off the field. I will always be grateful to Ole Gunnar Solskjær for first giving me the responsibility and I wish whoever now takes it on every success and they will have my full support.”
Harry Maguire had retained his captain’s armband last season despite falling off the pecking order. Furthermore, the club is reportedly looking for potential buyers for the player. However, his recent salary hike is proving to be a major issue for the English club.

The player has faced uncertainty at the club since the arrival of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez. Maguire has also lost his place as a first-choice center-back under Erik ten Hag. Therefore, the English club is expected to sell the player as soon as possible.
The player’s contract with the club runs out in 2025. However, as per reports, Manchester United are keen on selling the player this summer. Furthermore, the club would need extra funds to complete the manager’s transfer demands this season.

West Ham United is reportedly interested in signing the player after the departure of Declan Rice to Arsenal. Manager David Moyes would be looking to sign someone with more experience in the Premier League. Thus, Harry Maguire looks to be a good addition to the West Ham squad.
Furthermore, Maguire will also be looking to get some game time before the 2024 Euros. However, according to reports, the former captain is said to be happy at Old Trafford and wishes to continue there.
