Manchester United starlet Mason Greenwood has been given a new verdict yesterday by the Greater Manchester Police. All of the charges against him have been dropped and no further investigation will be done on him. The wider soccer fans have reacted differently to this news. But one question has been more than mutual in most queries. Mason Greenwood will be back to training or not?
Greenwood was first arrested last year after the 21-year-old was accused with the charges of attempted rape, controlling misbehavior, and assault. His ex-partner and her family brought those charges against him. Manchester United suspended Greenwood last year in January after the allegations surfaced against him. His last appearance came for the club on January 22 of last year, in a 1-goal victory against West Ham.
After he was arrested for the first time, he was also released with bail and certain court orders to follow. Mason was taken back into police custody after some problems were created with the court orders. A trial was set on November 27 of 2023. Crown Prosecution said, “the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction,” in a statement.

As the charges now are dropped, fans wonder if Mason can be back to training right now. The short answer is no. Although the charges have dropped the club has released a statement of its own. They said “The club will now conduct its own process before determining the next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete,” about their next steps on Mason Greenwood.
When will Mason Greenwood be back in the Premier League?
Although there seems to be a long way for Mason Greenwood to be back and playing again professionally for Manchester United, the question poses, when he can be realistically back in the Premier League. It is now more than a year since Mason is suspended by the club. However, during all this time he has been registered as an official club player on the clubâs website.
Manchester United has announced to run an internal investigation on the player before deciding anything about his future. Mason saw his brand deal with Nike getting torn after the allegations were made public last year. EA Sports also removed him from the FIFA 22 game and didnât include him at all in the ongoing FIFA 23 video game.

So conclusively, Mason Greenwoodâs comeback depends mostly on Manchester United at this moment. However, the fans will play a huge role in his comeback, as the allegations that were brought against him, were very serious and sensitive to a lot of people. At this moment his comeback to professional soccer is a very complicated matter.
