Lionel Messi has finally opened up about his future at the Argentina National Team. It’s been more than a month since Messi guided Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar last year. Although there were rumors that Messi will retire from the national team after the World Cup, Messi has confirmed that he will continue to play for Argentina.
In his most recent interview with Diario Ole, Messi talked about his plans for the FIFA World Cup 2026. Messi said, “I don’t know, I always said that by age, it seems to me that it is very difficult for me to arrive. I love playing soccer, I love what I do. As long as I’m fine and I feel physically fit and continue to enjoy this, I’m going to do it. “
Messi added, “But it seems like a lot until the World Cup to come.” Recently, Argentina’s coach Lionel Scaloni declared that Messi was always welcome to continue to play for the national team. As per Spanish radio Calvia FM, Scaloni said, “I think Messi can make it to the next World Cup. The doors will always be open.“
Messi during his interview was asked about Scaloni’s comments. To which, he replied, “I’m not getting ahead of anything either. I am going to turn 36. I am going to see where my career is going, what I am going to do and it depends on many things.”
Journalist: “Scaloni saves you “10” shirt, shall we leave the door open for 2026?
Messi: I’m telling you… I’m not ahead of anything either. But that’s what I repeat and I’m going to repeat. Because of age and time, I think it’s difficult. But it depends on how my career goes.” pic.twitter.com/c6dLLYZiuR
