Frenkie De Jong dismisses reports of him being unhappy at FC Barcelona
Earlier, media reports from Spain emerged that leaked the 26-year-old’s reported salary. The Dutch midfielder targeted the shameful media outlets that leaked these false reports. The former AFC Ajax midfielder said, “There are lot of fake news on the press… some of you should feel ashamed, this has to stop as it’s not true”.
Frenkie De Jong is tired of dealing with the continuous false accusations leveled by the tabloids. He called out the false investigative journalism that does nothing except promote fake news. He also believed that the reports about his reported salary at FC Barcelona were all fake. The UEFA Champions League 19/20 semi-finalist said that his huge salary figure is a hoax created by some Spanish tabloids.
The Dutch midfielder feels very comfortable in the Catalan city and does not wish to leave the club anytime soon. Frenkie De Jong wants to stay at FC Barcelona for the foreseeable future and wants the fake stories circling in the media to stop.
Barca’s financial woes deepen as La Liga slashes its wage budget
The Catalan club has been fighting to manage its finances ever since the COVID-19 pandemic. Barca has found it difficult to register players over the years and has asked its players to take a wage cut numerous times. Its biggest problem is to manage the club’s salary budget. Over the years, FC Barcelona has found it difficult to comply with La Liga’s salary caps.

The Spanish League had already reduced the salary cap for FC Barcelona from around $700 million to $293 million, which is an almost 50% reduction. However, in a final nail to the coffin, La Liga restricted FC Barcelona’s salary cap to a mere $175 million after the January 2024 transfer window.
This can potentially be very harmful for the club as it would deter FC Barcelona’s transfer plans. It might even need to sell some important players like Frenkie De Jong even going against the player’s will.
FC Barcelona had signed Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix on loan ahead of the 23/24 season and hoped to make their transfers permanent. However, after the recent salary cap announcement, it looks highly unlikely that the Catalan club will be able to go ahead with its plan. All in all, Barca finds itself in deep trouble and would hope for a miracle to save the club from a potential disaster.
