The earthquake in Turkey and Syria has been heartbreaking for the world to witness. Many have been reported to be missing after the deadly incident and sources claim that thousands of lives have been taken as well. This was certainly the case with Eyüp Ahmet Türkaslan, who was missing since the disaster on Monday. Many claim that the earthquake’s magnitude was 7.8 which caused thousands of buildings in Turkey and Syria to crumble to pieces.
It looks like Eyüp Ahmet Türkaslan was one of the people to be stuck under the rubble. Recently, Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu disclosed on Twitter that Eyüp has unfortunately passed away. He wrote, “The lifeless body of Yeni Malatyaspor goalkeeper Eyüp Ahmet Türkaslan was recovered from the rubble.” This is certainly not the news that fans have been waiting for.

Not all soccer fans might be familiar with who the goalkeeper was. He had not been at the top of the beautiful game just yet, before his unfortunate passing. The Turkish international was just 28 years old, and definitely had a few years left in the sport.
Who was Turkish goalkeeper Eyüp Ahmet Türkaslan?
Eyüp Ahmet Türkaslan was a player for Yeni Malatyaspor, a club that plays in the TFF First League. It is the second-highest tier in Turkey, after Süper Lig which includes the likes of Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe. He joined the club in 2021 after having a brief stint at Ümraniyespor, a club that plays in the Süper Lig. Eyüp could only make two appearances for Malatyaspor since joining the team. He does not have any major trophies to his name.
Malatyaspor Kalecisinin Eşi Kübra Türkaslan: Burası çok kötü. Ne olur yardım edin Eyüp’e. 30 saattir enkazın altında. Kepçe yok, vinç yok, kimse kaldırmıyor. Kimse enkazın altından çıkaramıyor, ne olursunuz yardım edin.

Before it was confirmed that he passed away, his wife, Kübra Türkaslan, publicly pleaded that the victims of the disaster needed help. According to Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, she said, “This place is very bad. Please help Eyüp. It’s been under the rubble for 30 hours. No grabs, no cranes, no one lifts. No one can pull it out from under the rubble, please help.” Multiple sources claim that she was also stuck under the rubble of debris, before being pulled out.

After his demise, Yeni Malatyaspor took to Twitter to express their feelings. The statement read, “Sorry for your loss! Our goalkeeper, Ahmet Eyüp Türkaslan, lost his life after being under the collapse of the earthquake. Rest in peace. We will not forget you, beautiful person.”
There are many who are still stuck under the collapsed buildings and are in need of help from the authorities. However, reports say that efforts are being made to rescue these unfortunate victims. We can only offer our deepest sympathies and condolences to those who have been affected by this horrific incident.
